Fingers crossed - now with extra arcade pr0n
« on: August 29, 2011, 04:05:26 pm »
I have been offered the machine below. It is pricey. It is mint condition. I had hoped to have confirm by tonight that it's going to be mine, but it's a Bank Holiday here and I am impatient. Yesterday, I got an email about it, mentally dismissed due to price. Then I got the pictures. OMG. OMG.

I just hope I get it. For so long I have searched and searched. I have turned down machines a quarter of this one's price. But I have never, ever felt, the same as I did when these landed in my inbox.

Really? I think 2304 credits is nothing, is it a lot? And it's home use only. Atari employee to Atari employee and well, I'll be the third owner.

Amazing.  If that's all original, it's probably the best specimen out there of it's kind.

What's "pricey"?

:dunno What am I supposed to do? I have plenty of room, it's just not really room for cabs.

Man that's a nice cab.  Would love to be able to have that.  Maybe one of these days when money's not such a big issue I can afford one that's just 1/3rd as nice.

I don't care for SW, but that is a dead minty Cock(r)pit. They are....well were at one time....one of the most coveted games out there. I'm not surprised that its spendy.

My question:  The play count is low but does the vector monitor have an age limited lifespan?  Could you buy this thing and still have the monitor die on you soon?  Or are they in good shape if old but not used much?

I think it's awesome but I would be upset if I spent big cash for the best one out there and still had to hope a big, hard to replace part didn't break.

I have asked (not the seller) the question. My gut feeling is caps don't die unless they're used (for example). And the seller maintains his games meticulously. But the monitor is my only concern (I have spare board sets). It's possible the seller has spare monitors, so I will ask just in case.

The latter. Haha. Not embarrassed really. I looked into every thread here and at KLOV I could find where prices for these were being discussed. If more is better, I win.  :-\

I'll post a list of everything I am getting with pics later today. I guess people will do their own maths.

Caps can go leaky with lack of use just as often as they can get dried out with lots of use. As long as the machine was not left on 24/7 it should be ok. If it was powered up for a few mins at least once a year it should be ok.

I wouldn't be embarrassed about paying a price.  It is a rare, desirable piece in beautiful original survivor condition, with known provenance, that is for sale and accessible to you.  Under those circumstances, it's hard to compare prices with prior sales.  If you're happy with the $, that's what it's worth.

All those klov guys, no matter what you paid they want to gloat about how you got ripped.  I posted (here) how much I paid for a beat down pinball, and how much I've paid to fix it up, and I know I've got $ into it I will never get back out of it.  I don't give a flying **** if somebody wouldn't have done the same, (not that anybody chimed in, here), it's my first/only pinball and the game and the experience are worth it to ME.

So unless you're putting it on a credit card or taking food out of your family's mouths or something . . . may the force be with you. :droid :droid :droid

@Mikezilla: Will do!

I know what you mean TJC, but I am actually getting a lot more than just the SW. I don't care what people think to a point, but then I just wanted to show that I'd been offered something amazing. And I am chuffed to bits. I will post the other arcade pr0n later. I don't want to jump the gun. ;)

Boardjunkie: Thanks, I think it will be fine, based on what I know and what you've said. See there, that's the kiss of death haha.

But that's 2304 plays in probably 28 years.. That's only around 82 plays a YEAR, and how many times would you sit down and play a SINGLE quarter?

OK. This is what I am HOPEFULLY getting (If it says mint they are as good as if not better than the SW). I haven't paid deposit yet (tomorrow) so it could all go belly up and I won't post pics til I know for sure. Yeah right.

THE SW cockpit ;)
MINT Tempest
MINT Space Duel (200 plays on counter)
Very good Quantum 9/10 Needs a new lower coin door and there are four small holes to the right of the lower door in the front panel)
Very good Rally X (Post and pics elsewhere, easy 9/10 but no side art (Straight from production line essentially))
As near as mint as possible Domino Man
Decent (7/10) DK
Decent Qbert (as per DK)
MINT Pong. With a very nice serial number. :D
MINT Computer Space in Blue/Green. Nolan Bushnell contact info inside. Sysygy boardset.

Oh, 1 more, at the end.

Some pics

Tempest

Domino Man

Space Duel. As New.

Now the good stuff

Computer Space, with Nolan Bushnell's contact details inside

And a 10/10 friend

Serial number THREE

Brand new (in box)

Enough for now.

Those cabs belong in an arcade museum somewhere.  Or the Smithsonian.  Or something.

Not in someone's house FFS!

Yup, and while they will be in my house, the plan is that that what my house is for. I totally agree.

They are too good and I am working on things to make sure they are available to everyone. Without touching lol.

Am working on it tho, don't you worry. (and until two days ago I wasn't but I am not stupid) erm. ;D

I was just thinking (day dreaming really) about a brand NIB Robotron. I've seen them pop up before over the past few years. Verticals, now a cocktail. Whats up with that, how did they survive 30 effin' years of no one tearing that open and gettin' their robo on?

I cannot understand that one... Would love to have it though. Have to admit I wouldn't be able to survive a day without playing it.
