36" Tube TV Options?
« on: July 29, 2011, 07:15:47 pm »
Finally bought into the flatscreen tv phenom.  The old 36" tube is now homeless.  I'm thinking showcase cab, the SO is thinking landfill.  What do you think I should do?

Throwing it away seems kind of drastic.  At least throw it up on craigslist for $20 before you do that.  There are plenty of people out there who would appreciate a big SDTV for retro console gaming.

Does it have a component video connection?

He could probably get a good hundred or so for it, especially if he lives close to the Mexican border.

This got me thinking... how big of a TV could you practically build a cocktail around? I've got a 32".... Pac Man Battle Royale has a 32" (widescreen, LCD) I think....
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

My dad's got a 40" mitubishi tube tv. The thing is a BEAST  :o

But, it's still looks great.

He's wanting to get a projector, So I might have a shot at it.

Now THAT would make a hell of a cocktail (ok, not a cocktail, that'd be a dining room table cab!)

You'll have an easier time fitting a bigger TV in a cabinet if it's vertical too.

spotted one in there that is a 33" cocktail.  Seems much too big for my tastes.

I think a vertical over 30" would need some distance between player and screen... at which point you pretty much have a showcase cab.  Just add guns and you're all set.  I have a 27" horiz. now, and cannot imagine the screen any bigger without more distance.

I missed that one. Can you post a link?

Yeah, I imagine a screen so close would be overwhelming.
