GP-Wiz40 MAX Usb

Hello everyone. I was wondering if someone can give me their opinion on this controller. I am looking for a controller with 32 inputs but this is the closest that I can find. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The Gp-Wiz40 looks like it has a +5V out, would I be able to use that to light up my LED buttons? I think that's why I was looking at that vs. the I-PAC2. If it cannot I will be getting the I-PAC 2 and the LED board.

If you won't be controlling your LEDs with software (always on when your machine is on), you could use your computer's power supply to light your LEDs. You could even just cut open a spare usb cable to tap into 5V for the LEDs if you wanted.

I am kind of interested in trying that since I have nothing to lose. Can you point me in the right direction with the wiring?

When you cut open the USB cable there will be 4 small wires: green, white, red, and black. Red is +5V and black is ground. Hook up all your + leads from your LEDs to the red wire, and all your - leads from your LEDs to the black wire (assuming your LEDs have built in resistors). If you use your computer's power supply, use a red wire coming off the PS and one of the black grounds.

Kind of hard to see, but I tapped into my MK fight stick's usb cable to power some LEDs using a Molex connector.

Would there be an easy way to introduce a terminal block into the mix? So I have the black and red from the usb and then will be able to terminate each of the LEDs to it and have it work? Or at that point I am designing my own circuit board?

You could use a terminal block. Whatever you can use to connect the + leads to 5V and the - leads to ground should do the trick. Use whatever you're most comfortable working with. Just make sure your connections are insulated to prevent any shorts.

Just checked out the MK Mod and your cab.. WOW, nice job! 

I was not planning on doing anything that big. I am getting some ChromeaLite buttons and want to light them up. Is there a specific process that you would recommend? Just want to get as much info as I can so I can do some more research and plan it out tonight.

Never used that style before, but it looks like you'll be able to use quick disconnects (not sure what size) to hook your wires to the LED bases, which should make things a little easier. If you want your LEDs to be brighter, you have the option of using 12V (yellow wire from your computer's PS) with those. You can just daisy chain your powers and grounds which will save you on the amount of wire you have to use, and pretty much eliminate the need for a terminal block (unless if you really want to use one).

Red is +5V and black is ground.

I hate that they use black for ground.

I've built nearly 75 mame multicades and of all the different encoders I have used, GP-wiz line is my favorite.
