U-360s Not working on boot. Windows 7
« on: May 02, 2011, 10:37:28 am »
I finally got my cabinet up and running at least enough to play some. :)

One issue i am noticing is when i first boot the U-360s are not working
I have the U-360s connected with the Pinheader to Ipac and also connected via USB for loading maps etc.
Led-Blinky is running my LEDs
Front End is mala.

I noticed i have to go in and program the joysticks with Ultramap to something and then make them analog again to make them functional.
Should i be leaving them in analog and then just using the Top mount restrictors (this is how i am currently running).

How can i have the u-360s automatically initialized.

You don't need an I-Pac at all with the U360. The wires from the pin header are just connected directly to your buttons. Then Windows sees the entire ensemble as one analog joypad with buttons.

Depends if he wants to use it in input mode or output mode. But true, that is one of its greatest features I think.

I actually have the same issue; when my computer boots up, it doesn't recognize the joystick part of my u360s until I program them through Ultramap (the buttons are recognized before, however).  I also have an ipac, but I connect my U360s through a USB hub and not through the ipac.  I wonder if the two things are conflicting with each other somehow?

Hmmmm.... this could be a power issue again. Try a powered USB hub and see if that resolves the issue.

I don't want people to think I'm criricising the U360 for this, as this is the second recent thread I've said this now. They really are fantastic all round joysticks for cabinets. But it's so easy to try out a powered hub if you have one already (or borrow one) just to see if this resolves the issue. If not then it's head scratch time.

Why would it be a powered hub issue if they work fine once you program them ?

I have a powered hub currently ( its only got a 500ma wart on it tho ) . The 360s are plugged into the PC directly.

I can certainly plug them into the hub and see what happens.. its not a detection thing as Windows sees them perfectly it just doesn't use them..

I had the exact same issue on an Intel Atom mini-ITX board. Windows saw it but as asoon as Mala and Mame started there was nothing from the U360s. A powered hub cured it instantly. Why?! Don't ask me... it worked and I never looked back.

It costs nothing to try (assuming you don't go and buy one specially). If you still have problems then fair enough, it's thinking cap time.

I havent tried the powered hub as i rewired the entire CP last night due to my new artwork coming in .. There was a mix up with the original artwork so i had just wired everything up without the artwork in place.. but of course had to remove everything to put the new artwork in place.. but i had a thought.. Could i not just make a batch file that initilizes the sticks using the cli mode of Ultramap before going into mala
Am going to give that a shot this evening
