what art mods on Monaco GP-PP mod?
« on: May 01, 2011, 08:36:46 am »
Since my GP has nice orig sideart, but is now set up to play PP, what art or bezel should i use in the game?  I thought I might try using a PP bezel in there if I could get one cheap, but just leave the Monaco GP art on the outside.  I am also missing the look of the original GP lighting inside the cab- should I try some LEDs or some other race-themed lighting 2 spice it up?  How abt cutting a PP marquee and putting it inside somehow as an accent?  I will post some 'current state' pics later today.

Wow noone has any suggestions?  Is this because I have pulled the original game out of it?

I need to snap more pics but the monitor is now BOLTED in place in the cockpit, NOT bungee'd anymore- that was only while I was getting it positioned.

Also, the cheapo PC speakers are no longer visible.  I have wired the original cockpit speakers into the wiring that is run by the PC speakers, and those dinky PC speakers are now hidden within the cockpit.  I have also made a black bezel to cover the area around the monitor using 1/8" black posterboard/waferboard/something, which has done a great job of hiding all of the yucky stuff (ie wires etc).

I want to put a glass bezel over the black one, and right now I'm leaning towards a PP one but have not yet bought one.

I'm also considering mounting a blacklight inside the cockpit somewhere, and putting some blacklight reflective accents someplace inside the cab, but haven't got any specific ideas on that yet.

KLOV is blocked at work... :dunno

Just go with what feels right for the project. I'm sure any racing themed art will make this cab more enjoyable. Not so sure about the black light responsive stuff though...

Pics...  (sorry Nephasth, thought you were razzin' me bc I'd been so slow posting the pics)

Pic 1 is a cockpit like what mine looked like before I took it apart.  I hadn't snapped a pic of it before I started the metamorphosis...

Yea, definitely needs bezel artwork. I would just photoshop one and have it printed and put it behind the glass. I don't know if a PP bezel would be the right size...

Yeah it's gonna be a diff size so I was trying to think of how I could make a wood frame to embed it in or something.   I'm finding your Photoshop suggestion interesting though..   Who would you recommend to print it out?  Kinko's or something?

I would go to Kinko's, only because it's close to where I live. If you could find a sign shop that doesn't charge up the ass you could even get one printed on vinyl to stick to the glass/plexi.

You have also raised another good point now, as the original bezel is not a clear one, so I'd need to get a new piece of glass or plexi.  Plexi feels like the way to go, because I can probably get that at HD.

See how much you've helped already??!!  Greatly appreciated!

What I love most about this specific project is, ever since I got this setup working, it has been played at least once a day.  Prior to that, when it was a non-working Monaco GP, it sat dead for 6 mos, and I had to look at it every time I went out to the (g)arcade!  It was awful!

I'm trying also to come up with some kind of light scheme inside the cockpit, even if it's only one LED, as it's pitch dark in there and currently, when you want to start a game, you have to hit a key on the keyboard- makes it a little hard to see the key when it's pitch dark! LOL

Use LED lit buttons on the CP and you wouldn't need any lighting inside. I think lights inside while playing would disrupt game play somewhat.

That is a(nother) good idea, thank you.  I wish I could make one of them start the game, but right now all I have in it is the PCB from one mouse running the gas, shifter, and steering wheel.  The only open function left on it is the analog X wheel, and at this time I have not yet seen a way to wire that up to a push button  :(  If someone knows a way, I'm all ears!
