Anyone know where to find some nice ones for mounting to the side of the CP?

Wegman's.  They have ones that you mount on the shopping carts.  You can probably snag a bunch in the parking lot.

This is the exact type of holder I had on my first cabinet.....

Although the ones I got were black. The beauty of them is they fold up too when not in use.

When someone finally develops a cup holder that prevents my martinis from sloshing onto my cab, I will be impressed.

The best kind of cup holder is a small table off to the side of the cab.  It can even hold FOOD too!

Correction, the best cup holder is a cocktail cabinet glass-top. ;)

We're in a townhouse, so the space is a bit limited, but my wife requested cocktail cabinets for side tables when we eventually upgrade to something bigger.

Thanks for the responses. I found these in an old post that look nice and sturdy :http://www.happcontrols.com/accessories/27142200.htm.

I don't need them to fold since they will be mounted on the backside of my cp where two perfect spots exist for them on my TMNT cab. I like how they can hold a mug too. Anyone use these?

For the longest time I thought cup (beer) holders would be the greatest thing for a mame cabinet, but then someone pointed out something to me...

Arcade machines never had cup holders! Why would you want to encourage someone having a beverage sitting on your hard work? Might as well buy a 1200 dollar rug and leave a glass of coke sitting right in the middle of it, while people are walking all around it.

Keep your beverages on a side table, it's just gonna keep them out of the way. You'll thank yourself for it.

I've threatened many times in the past to make all the adults at my parties use sippy cups too. Especially those that can't hold their liquor.

I think that adding I side table would actually add more spills. With the cupholder I could easily take a swig b/w levels without pausing. With the side table it would be more of a rush and I can see a lot of tipped over drinks. Like I said, with my cab

(http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.arcade-museum.com/images/118/1181242182137.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php%3Fgame_id%3D10052&usg=__Awl6d8BpBE-K7OzaVGUHuIZ8M3Q=&h=320&w=193&sz=7&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=BuDmIb5FD8xQSM:&tbnh=117&tbnw=71&ei=Tl-yTaXxOoPQsAP-tfjkCw&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dtmnt%2Bcabinet%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D976%26bih%3D529%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=382&page=1&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:0&tx=54&ty=43

they are simi hidden on the backside of the cp. I wouldn't think a little spill could get into the cp anyways.

Honestly, I just put drinks right on my CP. I don't have a frankenpanel and there is more than enough empty space to put a drink down. I've had a couple spills but they wipe up easily enough if you're quick. Nothing has seeped through to the CP artwork yet. And if the worst happened and a drink spilled and shorted out every single electronic device in the cabinet and simultaneously melted all the MDF...well, then I get to build another arcade cabinet, and building arcade cabinets is a lot of fun. It's win-win.

While I was in Portland this weekend, I was able to go over to Ground Kontrol to enjoy some games. I really liked their solution for holding drinks. These metal cup holders were all over the place, in the pinball section upstairs they had standing ones like in this picture, in the video game section they had them attached to the top and sides of the cabinets. Personally I'd prefer the standing ones.  I'm going to email them and see if they can give me any info on where they bought 'em.

That is a really neat solution. I can't quite see the legs in that picture, but you say it's freestanding?

Yes, it has a metal frame that goes down to the floor with a square base frame. Sorry, I wish I took better pictures of it, of the entire place really, but I was too distracted by the fun!

I've sent them an email praising their arcade, as well as asking where they got these. I wonder if these were custom made...but hopefully they get back to me because it love to have one or two of these standing beside my cabs.

The concern I have with metal cupholders in a cp would be condensation forming on the bottom of the metal and getting moisture in the cp. The floorstanding one are cool, but hoe are they better then a table?

Personally, I'd go with table myself, but one like Opt2not showed wouldn't be too bad in the right room, it looks like it has a much smaller footprint than would a table or the one I found.

I'm not a huge fan of chrome though (more of a brass and wood guy), so there is that  :)

The dogma in this hobby is hilarious sometimes.  People build big, wide, generic cabinets with custom/original artwork (blue lightning and random mismatched clip art FTW), multiple controller types, LCD displays, coin-in buttons, and marquees emblazoned with the word “MAME”, and then turn around and blame the cup holders for ruining the authenticity.

I put black cup holders on my black cabinet, and if it weren’t for the amazing convenience of their presence I wouldn’t even know they were there.

It’s like driving a cobbled together kit car that evokes the hot-rod culture of yore, and saying you can’t have a CD player in the stereo because the cars you’re vaguely imitating didn’t have them.

Hey all, the nice guys at Ground Kontrol got back to me with the link to their cupholders. They are 3-cup chrome "beverage racks" from Suzo Happ  with a custom welded base.

I like 'em!

Ok. Not precisely what this thread is all about but I happened on a nice pair of drink holder 2 weekends ago at a sidewalk antiques sale in Dallas.

 ;)

They were relatively cheap, nice carved mahogany and rose marble. and the perfect drink holding height!

Plus, the legs even match my cabinet!
