« on: April 18, 2011, 10:28:07 pm »
Does anyone know where i can buy large sheets of Self adhesive vinyl like on a Donky Kong cabinet. i was just at the Nascar Speedway park in Myrtle Beach and i noticed that the donky kong cab had vinyl siding. That what i want to use to cover my cab.

I thought original DKs were made with blue laminate. Is that what you mean?

The DK cab had Blue Vinyl as a base then the artwork was on top of that.  Does anyone have a DK cab to confirm that the blue is Vinyl if so where can I find this.

I have an DK cab.  Manufactured in 1984.  It is not vinyl nor is it laminate.  It is a type of enamel painted on the wood.

Check out a Sign Supply house.  The vinyl you are looking for is used for signmaking plotters/cutters.  It's not original to the cabinet, but was probably used in lieu of paint.

I have laminated a cabinet sized project with vinyl, and it's tricky to do.  Look up the "wet method" of vinyl application if you go this route, as it's bound to be easier.

You might as well.  Unless the vinyl used is very thick or rigid like actual laminate, you would see every imperfection in the surface underneath.  If you have to go through all of that prep work anyway, there's not much difference other than the fact that paint will probably hold up better and cost less.
