Closest joysticks to Williams Wico's?
« on: April 11, 2011, 05:07:08 pm »
I am thinking of buulding a multi Williams using this particualr CPO:
http://www.thisoldgame.com/products/mult-williams-defender-version

I really like the look of that CPO as it is mainly the look of Defender. Other multi Williams I have seen seem too cluttered. Anyway I digress....

My main query is are there any good replacement sticks for Robotron etc? I know the originals Wico sticks are now obsolete. But are there any leaf switch joysticks out there that are pretty close to the look and feel of the originals? Or am I wishing for too much?

Yeah, thats a great CPO...

GGG has the leaf pro, but I haven't used them. If you need a couple of Wico's, I can sell you a few rebuilt with fresh NOS grommets & red balltop shafts, $30 apiece. You can't get closer than that!! PM me if interested..

You can still find wico sticks. Put up a wanted post here or klov. The 4" sticks are being reproed right now and should be available soon. Everything else is the same on the 8-way wicos, so you can buy a 3.5" and swap to the 4" stick.

I'm a bit confused by this. Probably because I don't know the intricacies of these sticks. So are the 8-way sticks all 3.5" shafts? What games were the 4" shafts for? And does it make that mush difference in gameplay? I know Defender had it's stick set way low due to you having to use reverse button. A tall stick for Defender could be a hindrance. I'd probably compromise in the build to have the sticks "half way" between what they are originally.

Depends on which games matter most. Robotron was the only one with the tall sticks, I believe. They normally have a 3.5" shaft. The defender stick is its own animal, it is a steel 2-way. If you do want the 3.5" shafted model, thats what I have available. They both have NEW shafts and NEW grommets, which is very important. Don't pay $25 for a worn out assembly with a rusted shaft. Unless you just like throwing money away ;)

Hi,

I have a couple of NOS Williams joysticks if you are interested.  I just started cleaning out some old "stuff" in my basement and came across then last weekend.  Let me know otherwise I'll just list them on c-list or the crime-bay.

Good news, where will these be available from?, so that I can keep an eye out for when they are available.
