USB Hub - Can I get away without powering it?
« on: April 05, 2011, 10:22:44 am »
My standalone CP is going to have 2 or 3 usb devices:

-U360, no inputs, just the stick itself.
-Opti-wiz 1.0 on a turbotwist 1 on Z, and it will support a happ 3" trackball on X/Y
-Possibly the wireless mouse/keyboard receiver although this is optional

I figured I would have to power the 4 port hub, but is it possible the power requirements are low enough to go without?  The main encoder is an I-pac via PS2 so I'm going to have 2 cables anyway.  A third won't make much difference.  Thanks.

If you have enough usb ports on your computer, you wont need the hub.
If you must use the hub, then I would say it would have to be powered before it will operate.

I'm going to run power.  I don't want to have problems and have to go back and do it later.  I already have a monster umbilical cable going to the thing, one more won't hurt.
