Does this look like a genuine DK Joystick?
« on: March 21, 2011, 03:31:37 pm »
I dont have any details other than a picture. Does it look like the correct length for Upright DK cabinets? Right size ball top? Can you tell if theres a 4way restrictor from that picture?

I know I am asking a lot to guess from looking at a picture, just thought some experts might be able to spot them a mile off.

Thanks!

That is a nintendo joystick, just make sure that it has a 4-way plate, you can get one if you need to, but would be good to know if it's an 8-way or a 4-way

The last real one that I saw was on fire.  It still wasn't broken though.   >:D

FWIW -- that was not a DK stick -- was a VS stick.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I havent heard back yet if it is a 4-Way or not.

I was looking at the Mikes Arcade repro and noticed the shaft looks much longer (jeez so much innuendo talking about joysticks...!) compared to this one. So I am now thinking this one I found is too low? Also, does that clear plastic disc go above or below the CP?

Side by Side...

you got the wrong pic. This is mikes repro, same as yours, except you have the desirable brass bushing which screams ORIGINAL:

The pic I got from Mikes Arcade is of the Upright DK Repro ( TKG-23-50 ) which is the correct joystick for the DK Cabinet with wooden control panel.

The shorter one you linked to on Mikes Arcade is for metal control panels and Donkey Kong 3, Punch Out. You are right, the pic you posted does match the original pic I posted, but it appears its not a match for my cabinet.

sooo... the controller I am looking at buying is in fact wrong from what I can tell. It looks to be too short?

EDIT:  Just found out from seller it came off a Mario Bros machine...so as I suspected, it's likely too short and not a true DK Joystick.

Does anyone have the dimensions of the TKG-23-50? I'm thinking of putting one of these into my DK bartop for the authentic feel of the original 4-way controller. But I'm not sure if the footprint of the top plate is too large for my CP. I did send an email some time ago to Mike's Arcade but I never recieved a reply.

Now I be a little skeptical here but... If that repro doesn"t use a brass bushing, what does it use, and would that be the only difference?

Well I decided to buy a DK repro from Mike's Arcade. It's already shipped so I'm just waiting for it to cross the pond to the UK. I tried to search for any reviews on this site but couldn't find anything. I'm not expecting it to be a great all round 4-way so long as it has the original DK "feel". Not having a DK cabinet to compare against I won't be able to tell too much, but I did play on a cabaret last year.

I've decided to replace the U360 on my DK bartop with this repro 4-way. The U360 is a brilliant all round joystick but I wanted to get a more authentic DK feel to the game.
