Wiring Quesion - Auxilary cable use

Good morning,

I just purchased a Belkin smart strip. This particular unit has a timer/power on button. The timer/button gets plugged into the smartstip via a male auxiliary plug.

My question is, can I clip off the power button off and wire the ends to a happ button?  I am not sure how many wires would be inside of this particular auxiliary wire.

Any thoughts.  I was going to use it as is, but it would look so much cleaner if I could use a Happ button.

If the power supply's button uses a momentary switch, I don't see a problem with wiring it to an arcade button microswitch.

If it is actually switching the power to the strip directly then it has too high a voltage and is not momentary.  If the plug is large it will probably not be safe.  If it is small then it is probably controlling a lower voltage.  You will have to test with a multimeter to see what is being switched.

How would I know it is has a momentary switch?

I have not recevied it yet, but wanted to see if that was a possibilty.

You would have to check the end of the timer that plugs into your power stip.   If it is just a contact you can check it with the continuity tester on a dvm.   Do you have a model number or other info so we can see what it looks like?

By looking at it, my bet is that it is a momentary microswitch. I wouldn't be affraid to cut that off and wire it to an arcade microswitch.
