GGG EI TB help! changes from mouse 3 to mouse 4?
« on: December 13, 2010, 10:53:10 am »
What causes the TB and mouse id to change in windows?

I had everything set and now for some reason the id changed from mouse 3 to mouse 4. I went to play a game of Quantum and nothing... "reconfigured mame for that game only" and it worked but why did that happen.

I have an oscar spinner (mouse hack) an GGG EI TB and a logitech wireless mouse hooked up.

If you plugged a mouse device into your machine, which was previously installed before you configured your controls, when you plug that device in again, it will shift the numbering upwards.  The same type of thing can also happen as a result of plugging one or more of the mouse devices into a USB port other than where it resided when the controls were configured.

This is a Windows USB handling thing that has nothing to do with the EI Trackball.  The same thing can mess with the ordering of USB gamepads, etc.  One way to keep it from happening is to re-configure your software to reflect the controls' current arrangement and don't remove any of them, or completely uninstall whichever device is causing the shift upward and re-install it while the other devices are plugged in and in the order you want them to be.

Thanks Randy!
I did not change anything on my setup, which kinda prompted my question,
I'll have to check with my 12 y/o son, he knows enough about the computer to get into trouble, I'd bet money he says "I dunno, wasn't me!"
