What should I expect if I put a pci-e x16 2.0 card in a pci-e x16 1.0 slot.  It should work, correct?

I doubt it. I think it would work if you put an older card into a newer slot, but not a newer card into an older slot. Unless your mobo has a flux capacitor.

Will work. My mb (eVGA 680i SLI) has pci-e x16 1.0 slot and i'm running a pci-e x16 2.0 gfx (nvidia 280gtx)
