Phillips SPP3225WA/17 "smart" power strip

Found one of these at the local walmart for 20 dollars.

I plugged my computer into the master socket, and the monitor into one of the secondary sockets.
When computer is turned on monitor comes on, when computer shuts down, monitor turns off.

I know you guys know me as a "build your own" type, but I just couldnt pass up the price on this one.
It has 4 switched outlets, and one unswitched. Not sure what i will use the unswitched one for.

I like this strip, but I think it could use more switched outlets. And the four are close to each other, which could be a big drawback if you need to plug a fat wall wart into one of them.

It is rated at 2160 joules, which aint bad, and it also has phone in/out jacks although I wont need them.
It also boasts a $200,000 connected equipment warranty on it. Hey if I build the arcade myself it should be worth that much!

It is very compact and should fit nicely in the arcade cabinet.
And for 20 bucks, it is a very good deal, I think.

These are really good to get rid of the big wall wart problem on your power strip.

That philips unit is a great deal at 20$. Those "smartstrip" versions are ~40 or so other places

Plus. I'll credit philips this. I filed a claim against that 200,000$ connected equipment guarantee when I got hit by lightning.

They cut me a check within a week to replace the mobo on my cab.

I'm STILL waiting for APC (the "profession" power filtering company) to resolve everything, and it's been 3 months.

What's funny is I had my doubts that Philips would do anything, since the strip still seemed to work. But they said box it up and ship it to us, and about 4 days later, I got an email saying, yep the strip failed, we're paying, they even covered the cost of shipping. And the replaced the unit with one that was more than twice the price (the much fancier Home theater strip, which, unfortunately I couldn't use because it didn't have the Master outlet on it, but, hey, can't complain too much about that....

i have one of these in my showcase cabinet and it works great.  i wish i would have kept the warranty info though, i just threw it away because i figured it would never amount to anything anyway. 

they are well worth the $20.  i have a craftsman model in my other cabinet, it works well too, but doesnt have as many outlets at the philips.  it also doesn't have an unswitched outlet either.

I looked for the Phillips unit at Walmart, but found this by CyberPower instead, for about $20 including tax. Turns on quickly and easily, with low load devices. I used a 10" house fan as the 'turn on' device. You have your Master, and three switched, three always on.
