Coin mech to JPac or Ipac

I tried searching for this but couldn't find the answer to my question.

I am about to buy a stripped out cabinet for my next project. It's just a generic cab with working coin mech. I believe the coin mech is a Mars 111 (but I would need to check this) which runs off a 12V feed (can get this from the PC).  It's not one of the older mechanical mechs designed to just accept one coin. It will accept up to four coins giving different amounts of credits for each coin.

My question is will the JPac / IPac read and accept the signals being sent from the mech? Will it put 7 credits into the game if £1 coin is put in? (Assuming the mech is set up as such). Or will I need an older style mechanical coin mech that only accepts one type of coin? I would like to utilise the existing mech if at all possible though. (saves money )

I'm wondering if the mech just sends one signal to the game board (or in my case the JPac / IPac) a different number of times for each coin and if the IPac / JPac will read them?

depends on the wiring, if its just a 2 wire out, ground and positive, and it just pulses the positive line with the preset number of credits I think it'd work, but I'd wait for a smarter person to answer to be sure.

i use a jpac and old school coin mechs. it works fine. it would depend on how your coin mech connects. if its part of the jamma connector then it should work ok...is there a reason why you cant just plug it in and test it???

Well I haven't bought it yet. :p I'm toying with the idea of renovating this generic, gutted cabinet. Or just pay the extra money for a brand new purpose built CNC job. Then I can just put a new mechanical coin mech in it and have no problems.

This will be my 4th project with the last two needing a lot of woodworking. While I don't mind woodworking it really isn't an interest of mine, and for this project I want to keep that to a bare minimum (i.e control panel only if I can get away with it)

ah so you are going to buy a coin mech that accepts a lot of coins or does your current one do that? in reference to your first question im a little confused by what you have and what you are considering...

you can cnc the control panel too probably

If it doesn't work, couldn't you just get a mechanical mech to replace the fancy one?  The mechanical mechs aren't that expensive.

The cabinet only comes with the coin mech if I pay extra for it. That's why I wanted to know if it worked before I paid any cash. Otherwise I'd have spent money I could have paid on a mechanical one.

Id just get the mechanical one

i agree. less things to worry about. and its not like you gonna be putting lots of real money through your own cabinet

The cabinet comes with a coin door either way, right?  If it only costs more for the coin mechs (inside the coin door, not the coin door itself), then I'd just leave the mechs and buy mechanical ones later if you decide you want them.

the ipac reads it like any other switch or pushbutton, one flick of the switch = 1 credit.
