Having a heck of a time naming my arcade cabinet .....
« on: September 01, 2010, 12:29:00 am »
UPDATE (Sept 8, 2011): :dunno
Waking this one up.

I'm redoing my cabinet.  I still like the name Insomnia.  I should keep it since it is my first.  But I might change it.  The thing is, I might change the marquee.

I want something more colorful.  Right now, I intend to do shades of the attached pic where hte pic is my future intended Mala layout.  The attachment is blue.  I'll also have red, green, etc.  One per emulator.

I was thinking of doing a gradient that matches the colorful nature of the layout.  And I was going to use the same image, just cropped to a small portion of it.  Thoughts?

ORIG:

Apologize for the following brain dump .....

This is really kind of minor but I can not think up of a clever name for my arcade.  Sounds silly, but I need to figure out the artwork within a month. So I need to get started on it.

So far I have "1-UP Arcade" and "Mother Brain Arcade" as ideas. Retroarcade was quickly dismissed as being to common of a name.

Any thoughts of a clever name?  Or ideas for naming it?  I have two children named Lillian and Charles.  Maybe scramble their names up into new words?  I am also "1980ing" the cab.  I am getting 80s music and pop culture images for the screensaver.

If I did a 1-up theme for the artwork, I could find extra life items from carious games like the green mushroom in the mario brothers series.

I am at a total loss.  Right now "1-UP Arcade" is the front runner.  Thoughts, ideas?  Ideas for inspiration?

Words that rhyme with arcade:
http://www.rhymezone.com/r/rhyme.cgi?Word=arcade&typeofrhyme=perfect&org1=syl&org2=l

EDIT: rhyming fun:
"The handmade arcade to be played"

EDIT: Or just something off the wall:
Euphoria portico

EDIT: game vault or ...
assault vault or ...
The Pummel Bubble
The Asault Vault

EDIT:
Luminal Arsenal (kinda clever if you know what the words mean)
Festival Arsenal
Cerebral Arsenal

UPDATE: The front runner is "Shrill Alliance Arcade" made by The Final Remarks Ranch.  Shrill alliance is an anagram for my kids names and Final remarks ranch is an anagram for my full name.

EDIT: Updated the subject.  This is a cabinet I am trying to name, not an actual arcade.

Flashback Attack!

EDIT: A sentimental idea.  I love the internet because it can find a gem like Shrill Alliance Arcade.  Shrill Alliance is an anagram for "Lillian Charles", the name of my two kids.  And at ages 3 and 5, they do shrill together alot.  They are a sort of shrilled alliance!

My machines are 'manufactured' by Ion Phantoms, an internet-provided anagram of my name.

Not bad.  I tried my first and last name out on an internet anagram generator and nothing really works.  With my middle name included I get this:
Final Remarks Ranch.  You must be blessed though.  Ion Phantoms is awesome.

Others that just don't seem to work:
Lank Firearms Ranch (lank - long and narrow.  See also: lean)
Marlin Freaks Ranch
Frank Realism Ranch

Front Runner right now: Shrill Alliance Arcade made by The Final Remarks Ranch

I got Jail Slave Rhyme by Basil Jack Ale.

I don't think you need to pick an original name for your cab.  If you like Retrocade just go with it.  How many Retrocades do you or anyone you know currently own?

IMO, you are putting too much into the name.  A lot of people just buy a marquee off ebay and install it.  If it looks cool, it's good enough.  I guess that means my cabs are named "Area 51" and "Need for Speed".  I'm not seeing a problem with that personally.

Ragnar, where is your arcade located? When is it opening? You should name it something that will appeal to old farts nostalgic for the 80's. Let us know how city bi-laws and insurance worked out. Many here dream of opening their own arcade.

wow, online anagram generators are awesome.

i just used my first and last name and i got a few real gems:
Acid Clerk Foreskin
Ironclad Feces Kirk
Clarified Knockers

to get back on subject, i feel your pain.  my first cabinet was easy to name, i had one child at the time, named Zakary, it didn't take long to come up with Zak-Man.  however i have not had much luck since then, my new cabinet will likely go unnamed completely.
Current Projects:      Zak-Man | TMNT Pedestal | SNES Pi | N64 Odroid

I had a few others too...they were all winners in my book, but I went with a college sports themed route.

Syntheticade
MameZilla (I haven't seen any finished pics of a cab named as such, but I see artwork)
Mameasaurus Rex
Planet of the Mame
Mame-Apalooza
The Big Mame Theory
Relic Roms

Oh ...... I meant the cabinet name.  Many times, people have the word arcade in the title.  Sorry if I misled you.  I agree though, an actual arcade would be named much differently.

I like "The Wayback Machine".  That's a clever version of "Retro Cade".   :applaud:

I was going to suggest something along the lines of "Back to the Future", since it's an 80's themed cab.

The marquee could use a logo variation of that, like in this:
http://creativebits.org/files/images/80small.preview.jpg
WANTED: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. P.O. Box 322, Oakview, CA 93022. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before.
