I had totally missed this (don't have any room anyway) and don't know anybody who went, but these are Gerald's machines (the guy who wanted to open an arcade museum and amassed more classics in a shorter time period than I have ever seen). Would have been an awesome opportunity.

EDIT: What is rather telling is that Gerald didn't post anything on either of the two major Canada collector's sites (one reason why I missed it). It seems that he realized (after he ran an auction with great selection, but less-than-spectacular results for the seller) that collectors are a bunch of cheap ---daisies--- who mostly talk big.

I'm in the same boat regarding space - but I would have LOVED to have at least gone to look around...  I was IN Bowmanville yesterday, and am about 5 minutes from Whitby.  Although the pics have given me a bit of an idea...  I think my kids' gaming room could do with a classic Coke Vending machine.  Maybe an old cigarette vending machine, too.

I have an old 7-UP machine and love it.  The only issue with putting it in a kids gaming room is that it dispenses bottles.  12 oz bottles.  Not very easy to find kids drinks in bottles.  My drinks on the other hand, remarkably come in 12 oz bottles.   ;D

I used to have this shirt.  I believe I used to get the same responses.

I TOTALLY wanted to buy the popcorn robot machine at his original auction, but had gone with the express intent of not buying anything (I even drove Mrs Cheffo's vehicle instead of my game hauler).

Of course, he had to have a mostly-working Cheyenne cabinet there, so I failed anyway.

He had an actual auction last year at another location that I attended (and popcorn robot was there).

I did not go to either sale this past weekend.

EDIT: Link to auction thread

Ah, gotcha.  I guess if anybody was REALLY interested - and in the local area - the phone number is still there.  They could 'grease his palm', so to speak, and possibly get access to his stash.

Absolutely  - I am certain he has tons of machines left - although it would have to be worth his while to make the trip out.

I dunno if he'd mind at this point!

I was thinking of others who may see this thread (nobody in particular) who want to browse for a gutted cabinet to MAME. Unless he's already going to be there, it's not worth his time for $25.

Smart idea.  I'm sure if we had a number of people interested, and if he was up for it, it would be a nice outing.  Hell, bill it as that and make it worth his while - come in to buy for the negotiated price, or else, come in to browse for $5 a head...  That's what I'd like to do, if only for the nostalgia, since I know I couldn't give a dedicated cab the home (or the resto) it deserves.

What if we propose a "BYAOC" GT to visit the site, and put people into one of two groups.  Interested in buying vs. just looking.  If everybody paid an 'entry fee' to check it out, at least he isn't out of pocket.  If we had 10-20 people there, there's a better chance that someone might actually take something home.  Also, some people don't have a vehicle available (we've all seen/been the guy "if only I had a truck!") so if we were there, someone might be able to make a deal to 'deliver' the purchases in the local area.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but what do you guys think?
