ArcadeVGA 3000 and OpenGL
« on: August 20, 2010, 06:56:45 pm »
I'm having an issue with hardware OpenGL not working on my ArcadeVGA 3000.  I talked to Andy about it briefly right before he went on vacation and he said he would look into it when he got back.  But I was wondering if anyone else is seeing the same thing.  I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.

I've found 3 ways of testing it, 2 using emulators (Stella and Future Pinball) and 1 using a program specifically for checking your OpenGL setup.

Setting Stella for OpenGL, and restarting the emulator gives an error saying OpenGL failed, falling back to software.  Loading a table and playing it in FP gives an error that OpenGL is in Software mode, and that my resolution should be set to 32-bit color (which it is).

The third test was using the OpenGL Extions Viewer program from http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/index.html

It shows that the renderer in use is the Microsoft GDI, which means it's in software mode.

Hey, just saw your post and was wondering if you ever found a solution. I'm in the same predicament. I'm trying to run Supermodel on Windows 7 64 bit with an ArcadeVGA 3000. I updated the drivers from ultimarc to the latest and its still not recognizing OpenGL. The error log says that OpenGL version is only 1.1.0. I'm pretty sure the video card that the ArcadeVGA 3000 is built on supports OpenGl 2.0(says so on a lenovo support site I found). This is why I haven't given up hope yet.

I couldn't PM you back Nick. (not enough posts) You were right! A bad driver was causing it. For anyone else having this issue, uninstall all the ATI drivers and reinstall the ArcadeVGA ones. I couldn't just uninstall the drivers from Device Manager because it didn't get all of them. I had to use another program to wipe them all out. Thanks so much! You saved me a lot of hair pulling!
