Using a Gigaware game controller with mame?
« on: July 31, 2010, 09:05:14 pm »
Ok, I searched before posting but couldnt find what i need to know. Please forgive and point me to the post, if one exists already.
I just bought a Gigaware controller for PC at radio Shack.

It is USB.
I have tested it on Mala and  gameboy emulator and it works, but I cant get it to work with Mame. Is there anything I need to change in mame.ini file to make it work?
Thanks.

No, its not wireless, and I think it's only for PC.
It works great with the nintendo emuls that I have, but I cant get it to work with mame, which would be neat if it would.

Well, I got the controller to work in Mame.
Had to change Joystick setting in mame.ini from 0 to 1.
I tried this earlier but it didnt work, but I found out why.
My controller has a button on it to switch from analog to digital mode.
When I switched it to digital, the left analog stick works in mame, and the number 1 button is the fire (L CTRL) button in Mame. I havent tried the other buttons yet.
But I do not have ESC to quit the game, or number 5 or number 1 to insert credit and start game. Still have to do these functions on the keyboard.
Is there anyway to map the controller buttons in mame?

Hit tab when you are in a game then you can change input for the single game or input general for all games.   This lets you remap the controller for what you need.

Or you could work with the ctrlr files directly and setup a file for your game pad.

Thanks BobA.
I forgot about the tab button.
How do you work with the ctrlr files?

I have never had to change one so you probably have to get a faq from the mame site.
