Here is a very interesting video showing how Atari Games used to make a San Fransisco Rush driving cabinet (it's no wonder these things cost so much!):




And this is really interesting. I had heard of Battlezone being adapted for military training, but here is what looks like "Hard Drivin" style tech, adapted to 3 screens, for police training:

Although it did break my heart just a little, to see that Mario and Luigi had to leave Nintendo in these hard economic times to build cabs for Atari.

Here's is an ABC news segment about arcades games in 1982. What's interesting is at 1:54 they flash a marquee of a game called "Toasters & Chainsaws". No entry for this exists in KLOV.

Educational. But good to see the same construction methods are used by the pro's as by most home builders in the community. Granted, home-build strength doesn't need to match commercial strength and home designs are a little more accessible, but it shows all our construction methods are sound. I think the only real thing that made construction look more complex in arcades I used to frequent as a kid was that in fear of thieves most operators added a myriad of strengthening bars, extra locks and anti-tamper precautions!

Very neat videos.  I like how they did the underside of the SF Rush with the wheels just sticking out through the holes in the bottom and threaded leveling feet for when it was in position.

What was that tool used to install the T-molding at the end of the SF Rush video?  That looks so much easier & cleaner than my rubber deadblow mallet technique!  Looks like some sort of small AC electric pounder-matic.

I was curious about that myself... looks like a palm nailer:

edit: yeah that's it... a little more googling says many palm nailer kits come with a hammering head for applying molding, dowels, and body work.

Also I've been pronouncing Taito wrong for years if that video is correct. I've been saying Tay-tow, not Tie-tow. I wouldnt have had a problem if it was Thaito.
