Can't Find Defender Parts!!?
« on: May 10, 2010, 03:05:50 pm »
I'm trying to build a defender cocktail cabinet, but I can't find the parts for the control panel anywhere!  Does anybody know where I can find the parts or how I can build a control panel myself.

The control panel has limited space to work with, so I need to keep the underside short and simple.  Like this:

The control panel is just plywood, so with a router you could make your own.

You could check with Bob Roberts for the leaf buttons & switches:

If authenticity isn't an issue you could substitute GGG NovaGems or Happ translucent buttons; it would look the same but the button feel would be a little different.

The 2 way joystick is another issue; haven't seen those for sale. Keep an eye on eBay for them if you want to keep it authentic, or maybe substitute a 4 way? The standard Wico leaf sticks seem like they won't fit in there because of the lack of depth.

I have a Williams Moon Patrol cocktail (that was originally a Defender) awaiting restoration. The joystick is the same except horizontal instead of vertical, and it doesn't have the translucent buttons. Thankfully my control panels are intact.

I wouldn't call this cheap but here is a portion of the joystick.

EDIT: Nevermind, should look at the picture before I post....
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

i have no idea what stick the defender cab originally had, and i dont know how well these match, but lizardlick carries seimitsu joysticks that can be set to 2way mode...

http://www.lizardlick.com/pages/joysticks.shtml

they also carry translucent pushbuttons..

i dont know if that helps or not

It looks like the Defender cocktail stick is like the Joust cocktail sticks -- REALLY, REALLY, REALLY short under the panel (e.g. none of those fancy brackets that the uprights used). No words of wisdom as to where to find similar sticks as nothing comes close to the depth of the original stick. AND you don't want a tall stick for Defender as that makes hitting reverse more of a pain.

eBay, WTBs on KLOV, CL, BYOAC, local boards are about the only suggestions that I have.  :dunno

That picture of the Defender panels is from my restore:
http://home.comcast.net/~dark.paladin/defender

I still have the pair of sticks that I replaced with complete panels I got from someone, the sticks are the only thing I still have.  You can see in the pic that one of the ball tops has a chunk out of it.  They're both fairly rusty as well, but could be cleaned up.

Send me a PM if you're interested in the sticks.
