Anyone heard of Xtension Tower Arcade Cabinet???
« on: April 26, 2010, 06:26:43 pm »
They look like a good option on the cheap side for those that don't know how or don't have time to build one, but I haven't seen any reviews, anyone knows anything about them?

For $400 that is just disgusting. If you have that much money to blow, then just download the plans of what you want built and offer it as a job on your local craigslist. there will be someone willing to make you something near perfect for less than that.

F-F-F-F-F-Fugly. Why is the control panel section so damn complex, what's with the riveted look and what's going on with the overall shape?

This demonstrates exactly why X-Arcades do not belong in/on a cabinet. No matter what you do, even the better ones still look like their cabinet has a deformed conjoined twin. There's no better way to tell people "I'm too lazy to learn how to wire my own panel but don't mind making my life difficult with power tools".

Plus, if it's a CNC design then why does it look like it's been hammered together from scrap? Better results can be made by hand FFS.

There's just no good way to add a Tank Stick to an arcade cabinet that looks right.

Doesn't help how boxy and paneled this cabinet is, especially with all the bolt heads all over the place.

Would it have killed them to make it less ugly? Seriously, who designed this thing? It's not like a better design would cost more :dunno

Of course I am biased, but I think the way I added it to my portable bartop/mini looked "ok" at least...but this thing is an abomination.  They just don't belong on full uprights.

Mehhh, I'm torn.  It's certainly not as nice as pretty much anything in the projects thread.  But, compared to some of the beat up units that you can get off CL, it's not the worst looking thing ever.  I wouldn't have made some of the design choices they did, but, if it's sturdy, then they did something right.

You can get a beat up cab for close to free and gut it (if it has anything anyway) to get basically what this has.  You would need a shelf for your XArcade stick and a way to mount the monitor (easy with a flat panel).  $400 + shipping without any hardware is out of my price range.

Fugly...probably.
My style...NOPE!
Worth the money...questionable (leaning toward no)

someone actually bought one.. actually it could have looked nice if they

1. designed their own cp
2. improved the artwork
3. added a monitor bezel
3. removed all those carriage bolts (or whatever they are...)

Wow, it looks even worse on video :(

Honestly those bolts are the first abomination...so bad looking that they actually make the X arcade portion not the first thing I hate...but definitely the 2nd...the space by the monitor looks awful...and a visible keyboard up there? A Monitor on its stand just there...Blech...

I like odd designs but if you look at some of the unique designs on these forums like Ond's or Drventure's cab they retain the mystery that all cabs should have...the illusion that it is one integrated unit as opposed a hobble/cobble mess...this thing destroys that illusion by showing you the components (monitor, keyboard) and how it was put together (bolts).

It's more like a kiosk than an arcade cabinet; that's the problem.

Basically, you are saying...had they started from scratch and built something else ;)
