Tron Stick for MAME
« on: April 15, 2010, 10:32:15 am »
What you guys tend to use for a Tron joystick on a MAME cabinet?

I know GroovyGameGear sells the exterior shell that goes on a working joystick, but I can't find information on what stick that works with.

I also know that Tron sticks have an unusual rubbery restrictor that allows semi-8 way movement.  This seems like you'd need a very specific kind of stick to work correctly.

I believe there are several options (search the forums or wiki).   I went with what is probably the costliest.  I mounted the GGG handles to the Happ flight stick, and got the Tron Restrictor from Encryptor (check B/S/T).  I don't know if you can get anything better (other than an original).

Thanks for the advice.

How does that stick interface?  Like, leaf switches to a keyboard encoder, or USB or something?

[shameless plug]I have a spare, like-new black plastic shell & red trigger & 1 screw that I can't even seem to *give* away, so if anybody wants it, pay me a few bucks for shipping & it's yours! [/shameless plug]

Thank you sir!

I might need to get creative- I need to mount this from the bottom rather than the top.  D'oh!

Wow, that looks just like the spare I have.  Makes one wonder how many of these are lying around....

Thanks - I couldn't be bothered to look that up earlier - it's exactly what I used to swap restrictors.  Very helpful!

I never cease to be impressed by the people who make and document things for this hobby.  I'd be nowhere without the efforts of so many others.

You can also use a Xenophobe joystick if you can find one.
