help with coin control
« on: April 13, 2010, 10:17:56 pm »
Hi everyone.
I have just bought an arcade game air combat22.

the machine accepts $1 AND $2 coins
i need to program the video credit board so that it accepts all coins aswell as tokens,
as far as i know is that you have to change the dip switches and insert the coin you want it to accept 10 times.

any help would be great
it has a  video credit board and the coin mech is from coin controls, part no 255

cheers
kevin

For such game-specific device you may need to consult the original service/owner manual for the cabinet. If you don't have it try ebay, else you will have to sit out and hope that A) someone here owns the original game and B) knows how to do this. It will be a function in the BIOS of the game that programs it, not the coin mech itself I would have thought, so it's irrelevant what coin mech you've got. Have a look using the 'searc function and you may find advice on modifying coin mechs to accept tokens, or alternatively swap your coin mech out for a comparitive mech which can be set to accept any disc-shaped object and hence, any coin or token.

thanks for the advice.
ive been into the game setup but that doesnt let you set what coins are accepted,
i went to an arcade here and watched the man there change what coins the machine would accept.
he changed the dip switches on the video credit board then passed the coins he wanted accepted through the coin slot about 10 times flicked the dip switches back and it was all done.
The coin mech in the machine was the same as mine, but when i explained to him i wanted to do the same to a machine i have he refused to tell me what dip switches to move.

ive searched the internet with no luck

Without an actual picture or more specific information, it will be difficult for people to help you.

Having said that, perhaps the documentation for the MARS Coin Handling System will help:

http://www.namco.co.uk/bandainamcogames/technical-manuals/mars.html

Or the manual for the Air Combat 22 kit (not likely, but I include it for completeness and because I'm not going to bother looking any further):

http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Manuals_and_Schematics/Air%20Combat%2022%20kit.pdf

Before you throw another :hissy: fit, RTFW -- both of these manuals were found via documentation links provided in the Restoration Page of the wiki.

Yeah, a picture of the parts you have would definitely help.
And your location. (can't say that I've seen a $2 coin)

I think you're mis-understanding how some of these things work.

Arcade pcb setting - number of coins PER credit
Video Credit Board - can actually have a number of different functions, including adding and calculating multiple coin types per credit.
Coin Mech - determines what TYPE of coins are physically accepted.

The guy dropping coins 10 times or whatever was more than likely him just "testing" his new settings.

Is your credit board something like this -
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

$2 coin, or a Toonie, as we call it, is Canadian currency.
