cost of spinners ...
« on: April 05, 2010, 02:30:19 pm »
Can someone please explain the outrageous price of spinners ?

I paid 175 for a working NeoGeo cabinet with a 25" display ( all it needed was some extra buttons and a cap kit ) , so It's hard to accept that 2 spinners would cost me more than the rest of the cabinet....

is it just a low demand issue ?

thanks

$175 is very cheap for a working NeoGeo cab with working monitor (even with the needed repair).  Spinners don't have to cost that much though.  It depends on which one you get.  You could even DIY a couple for just a few dollars if saving money is important.

I DIY'd mine, but it eventually broke. I'd love to get a proper one, but they are just too damn high.

Why two spinners, though? One is plenty.

IIRC, there's a few driving games that use more than one spinner (assuming you have an attachable wheel).

Well, if you really MUST have multi-player Ironman Stewart and Super Sprint, I guess I could see that, but to me it's not worth the cost (hell, three spinners cost about what you'd pay for one of those games).

You can probably get away with using a trackball for spinner games until you decide you want to upgrade to a spinner.

Me, I RARELY use mine.

The Turbo Twist 2 is a fantastic spinner. I use it about as much as the trackball. My favorite game is probably the Tempest remake Typhoon 2001...hands down one of the best versions (short of Minters Tempest 2000) and fantastic on a cab.
