My 1st cabinet build... (Picture heavy) *UPDATE 1/24*
« on: January 18, 2011, 10:10:35 am »
This is my 1st cabinet build. I plan to do a trackball & wheel w/pedals cabinet in the future.  ;)

As you can see, it is not finished. The marquee is currently being made & I need to take more measurements for the CP overlay. I am also replacing the black t-molding with red. The side art will be hand painted by my girlfriend.   I will add pictures as these things are finished.  :burgerking:

I started with an old particle board Gunsmoke cabinet that I picked up from a guy on Craigslist for free.  :applaud:
Replaced my desktop last year so the old tower was used for this project.

Here it is when I brought it home:

I scraped off all the artwork:

Painted it black (Combo of roller & rattle can):

Cut a piece of 1/2" playwood to mount the monitor on & bolted/screwed that into the existing mounting:

I then mounted my HP LP2065 LCD monitor via the vesa holes:

I then cut a piece of black posterboard to go around the monitor & glued that to the existing frame:

Then I got to work on the control panel. I went with your standard Street Fighter II layout:

Painted the CP flat black:

Picked up a set of cheap Logitech 2.1 PC speakers from Newegg. I got lucky & they were small enough to fit the existing speaker area so I just laid them in there. The subwoofer is at the bottom of the cab next to the PC tower.

I then used some 3M double sided tape to mount the volume control to a place where I can reach it:

Here you can see the underside of the CP, the USB hub I mounted in the front of the cab & the PC power switch above the hub. I am running Paradise Arcade Shop’s USB controller.

The keyboard & mouse are behind the coin door:

Here’s a shot of the subwoofer, PC tower & smart power strip at the bottom of the cabinet. I used the PC as the main power source:

Some shots of it turned on & running:

Looks good! Maybe I missed it on first read, but what frontend are you using?

Looks like you could make that LCD rotate without a whole lot of work.

Put the red t-molding on tonight followed by the Mario doll my gf crocheted from scratch for me. She sells crocheted stuff if anyone is interested. ;)

She doesn't have a webstore or anything. Just sells to co-workers, friends, etc. Just listed a few auctions on Etsy tonight. She can make a lot of stuff.

Good job on the cab. How is the USB controller working out for you? I ordered one but haven't had a chance to test it out.

Congrats on the GF making you that awesome Mario. I saw someone make a scarf with Mike Tyson on one end and LIttle Mac on the other. any chance the GF can make one of those?

Seems like the USB controller took a dump last night. PAS has shipped me a replacement.

I'd have to ask if she could make 1 of those. PM me if interested.
