Champloo Mame...
« on: March 14, 2010, 12:51:23 pm »
Want to share my first cab project so here she is.  I will get more detailed pics up because I feel there are lots of details that can help someone who is starting their first cab.  Anyway, hope you like Champloo Mame!

BYOAC is the only reason I could have ever finished let alone been inspired to make a go at building my own cab.  Thanks for being such a cool community!!
GGG, Lizard Lick, Mame Marquees, and my local glass guy... You guys RULE!!  Thanks for going above and beyond ;)!!!

Very nice cab, can't wait to see some more pictures.  What did you base the plans off of?  i don't believe i have ever seen this design before and looks very nice.

Hey thanks!  I saw something similar online somewhere but they did not sell the plans so I drew some up on Autocad (thank you newsgroups!!).  To be honest It was a good thing since I am 6'5" and I wanted a cab that catered to my height.  This cab is going to be multimedia (jukebox, movies...) so I designed it to fit a 32" LCD.  I don't mind sharing the Autocad file and the Photo Shop art templates BTW.

Great theme! Nice cab! One of my most favourite anime shows ever!

What are the internals made up of?

I don't have autocad (or know how to use it), but would love to have the plans.  This is exactly the style I want mine (gonna start in spring) to be.

Thanks for the plans in advance - anyway the plans/dimension be in jpeg or pdf?

thanx a bunch

I can save it in a jpeg or pdf so you can view it.  It is kind of a mess right now so I am going to sort it out into several different pages.  It was a work in progress all the way to the end.  I will get back to you for sure.

I got the TV on the cheap thanks to slickdeals.net (if you don't know about this site you should check it out).  It's 1080p since I will be playing blueray on it (yes I know it's pointless to have 1080p on a 32" but I get piece of mind knowing that it's the best my movies will look lol).  This was the first item I purchased because I based my plans on the actual size of the screen and case.  The speakers are the Logitech THX 5.1 speakers from a few years back. They sound amazing and the sub has a nice clean sound to it.  The sticks are Perfect 360s and a Sanwa for 4 way.  All of the buttons are electric-ice, trackball Electric-Ice T, and the spinner is the TT2 (thanks GGG for such amazing products).  I know the wiring looks like a mess but it's the best I could do with all that is going on in the CP.  All buttons/trackball are full RGB which I am still tinkering around with.  The boards are a Keywiz ST and 2 LedWiz which function exactly as promised.  The computer I found through slickdeals.net as well.  The PC is a Dell and it's super slim so after I figure out where to put the face plate (for easier access to the power button, headphones, and usb ports on the PC) it will be flat enough to rest on its side underneath the coin door.

There are obvious influences by Knievel as far as the layout and design of the CP.  The CP has only 2 wires (both USB) coming out of it for now (until I hook up the keystrokes for the coin doors).  It is easily removed and will make way for my next project which will be a light gun/flight stick/steering wheel CP ;).

The speakers were on of the hardest decisions to make.  Many hours of searching out grills/speaker covers and I had only a few ideas.  Then I found a post in this forum about cutting out speaker slots in the wood.  I think the end result was worth the effort (lots of effort believe me!).  I wish I could track that link down to give credit to the person who came up with this idea ;).  There are 2 grills on the front of the cab and 2 underneath the bezel.  Speakers sound great ;)!

Not really..in addition to the Blue ray capability you mention it also lets you run desktop and games at a higher resolution.  STIV looks amazing at 1920x1080 :D

Nice. I really like the scale of the big tv vs the rest of the cabinet. It works really well there!

Just spotted this for the first time, and I have to say I love those side panels. Any chance you could share the drawings/dimension you used?

Not my artwork but I did add the black border and stretch and crop the original image and darken the colors a bit to match the cab better.  I believe the original will come up in an images search.  I am still going to post the plans in PDF when I get the chance.  It is just so unorganized and in places dimensioned for my use more then proper drafting standards.  Working on the light gun/driving game CP and when I get that done I will post here.  As far as the theme... It's all about the fighting games!!!  Nothing like inviting the friend's kids over and wooping the snot outta them with Ryu ;)!

Cheers,
Alan

I am working on a sketchup based on the plans that mingaling was so kind to send me. Hopefully I should have them up by the end of the day, but the width will be a little smaller since I am using the sketchup to plan out my 26" based cab.

I like the marquee, with the exception of the text font... somehow, it just doesn't seem to fit.

Can't take credit for the font as it is straight from some of the original DVD artwork.  All I did was add the orange splashes (I LOVE PHOTOSHOP!!) behind the font.  The font style is the predominate style used in the original SC artwork.  Unless you are referring to the kanji sent to me by my X GF of 4 years that means "enjoy life now".  Heh that is kinda my trade-mark phrase for future products.

Cheers!

Lol more like a Japanese woman's sense of priorities and career goals :P.  Maybe it was for the best since I found the time to build my cab.  Now my life is complete and I can concentrate on relationships again ;)!!  OK well maybe not complete but shesh when I had that first cab in my mind it tended to linger in my thoughts (we are talking 10ish years here).  If only I had kept the pics of the first attempt at a cab frame some 10 years back (would have been a 2 part 500lb monster).  Thanks has to go out to all of the people for the many innovations in arcade cab building and this community for being the smart guys that you are!!

Cheers
