Perhaps his parents are under the impression that the games are illegal. Maybe they believe he should socialize more. I also wonder if there's a reason they don't want him to build anything (see "He gets an F in use of scissors." So true and funny as he||!)
Before mentoring this kid, perhaps it would be cool to get his parents permission. Without permission, I wouldn't involve myself with this as we don't know what circumstances have him where he is. With permission, we could do several things...
If he is interested in building, we could determine his needs, chip in some money ($5 via Paypal to a veteran BYOAC'r) and purchase and ship his buttons, ipac, joys, etc. and teach him the ropes.
If he just wants to have controls, we could do the same, but also have someone build him a controller box. Although, that would pretty much defeat the purpose as he wouldn't be building or learning...
