Act Labs Lightguns compatible with Soft 15Khz?
« on: January 24, 2010, 11:38:14 am »
Hey everyone. I bought a couple of the Act Labs lightguns to use with my Mame cab a few years ago. I didn't know at the time that they wouldn't work with the ArcadeVGA card. I have now replaced the computer in my Mame cab and I am running the soft 15Khz program off the onboard ATI graphics. My question is, will the lightguns work, or are they only compatible with 31Khz? Is there just no way to use them?
Current collection - 28 cabs, 4 pins. (32 machines and not enough room)

I just read in a review that the only issue with the guns not working with the ArcadeVGA card was when it was paired with a certain revision of the Wells-Gardner 9200 arcade monitor, but outside of that the guns work just fine with the ArcadeVGA. Maybe I missed something, but that's the impression I got. The only way to know for sure is to try it yourself. Just know they will only work with a CRT display.

I put ONE inline with the ArcadeVGA card and my monitor is a K7400. All I got was desync and crazy lines. When I unhooked it, my image returned to normal.

Do you have separate or composite sync going to your monitor?  I believe you need separate for the guns to work.

It's a composite sync. I have since sold the gun. Maybe I'll get another one and try separate syncs. Thanks for the info!

i have two act labs gun vga box version (the first version of gun, space design style)

i have ati 9800 pro with crt emudrive 6,5    soft 15 khz and vga scart cable on 21" crt tv akai win xp3

if you use the gun vga box with only vga scartcable, in my case the gun dont work.

i have buy this converter and the gun work:

http://www.amazon.it/LEICKE-KanaaN-Convertitore-suVfficiente-alimentazione/dp/B003U0PHC8/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ce_4

first plug the converter in to the vga PC

then plug the vga cable of the gun on the VGA IN on the converter

last plug the vga scart cable on the VGA OUTof the converter

The act labs gun calibration work only in 5/6 resolution tested with OSD or switch res, but in 640x480 dont work!
infact if you plai point blank on mame in native resolution the gun calibrate and work.

the converter dont modify the quality signal of the vga scart cable.
