Up in the Air - one damn fine movie

Well, if you're a fan of movies with great witty dialog, interesting unique storylines and enjoy watching great acting, you could do worse than this flick.  Directed by Jason Reitman (Juno), it stars George Clooney as a guy who's job is to visit corporations and fire people when they're "downsized".

Anyone else see the movie?

Only issue I had with it was ...
when clooney visits Alex, how did he get her address?  Obviously from the situation, she would not have given him her home address.  I assume he did the same thing she did when she mentioned she "googled" him but I think that would have been a scene best show with him checking out his laptop and smiling or something like that

Anyway, my missing something here doesn't ruin the movie for me. It's release during this "economic downfall" era is pretty spot on timing.

I thought the same thing.  It did look like he was reading from some kind of receipt while he was driving there, so I wondered if I had just missed when he took something that would have had the address.

And yeah, best movie I've seen in months.

I don't remember the receipt, good catch!  Might be a deleted scene that would explain this.

Yes, i quite enjoyed this movie. It appealed to me because i seem to be a perennial batchelor, a bit like Clooney and Clooneys character. I give it 4/5. No, in retrospect 4.5/5. It was great to see a hollywood movie that didn't have an obvious ending.

Check about About Schmidt, it's a similar movie that I enjoyed more.  I used to fire it up every now and then when I wanted to feel depressed.

Oh hell yes, I loved that movie.  I'm surprised I'm still alive after watching it.

I really liked About Schmidt.  I saw it right when it came out so I don't remember it vividly, but I certainly don't remember it being very similar to Up in the Air.

Aww, I was looking forward to seeing Up In the Air, but all I remember about About Schmidt is how much I hated it, so maybe I'll wait until I catch it on HBO or something.

"I knew how the movie was going to end".

I've never really understood that comment. As a fan of movies, I love seeing movies I like more than once. It's not the destination that's most important, but the ride there.  Any fans of Indiana Jones knows Indy will win, will live, but how he beats the bad guys, the laughs along the way, etc. is what counts.

With "Up in the Air", like many movies I can spot how some of it will end up (I spotted Clooney's girlfriend's arc a mile away) but I put away that urge and try and concentrate on the experience such as the witty dialog, the acting, the chemistry, the reality of the story, all that put together with some originality (did you know a lot of the performers were real people who did get let go in that same situation?) really make my own enjoyment of MOST movies a lot better.

We're all different, but that's my take on predictability in movies anyway.
