This thread can go either way...  ;D

you have to elaborate on "whose going with you" if your going with the "what happens in vegas approach"... or generally what kind of thing your looking for.... we can list "super walmart" sized strip joints or cool tourist-y type places... hell even the "Gold & Silver Pawn Shop" is awesome!!!

LET'S MAKE A DEAL

It takes about 5 hours, from start to finish.

Even if you don't get called, 5 hours away from the craps and blackjack tables will feel like you've won money.

Which was based on the Chicken Ranch in La Grange.

The Nevada one opened up years after Zindler shut down the La Grange one, and houses memorabilia from the original.

Its Vegas man.... drink like a fish, eat at nice restaurants, play blackjack till you cant situp anymore, then go hang out at one of those nice hotel pools.  When that gets boring then go see the PHOF.

But whatever you do DONT GET MARRIED!

Heh, I am going to get married so handies from dancers just isnt in my cards. I will see the hoover dam & grand canyon from a helicopter but not up close...perhaps I should? Blacking out & eating steak/lobster is a given. That Sterling brunch @ Bally's sounds badass. $85 per person but its unlimited caviar, lobster & never ending $45 bottles of bubbly so fo sho thats on my list. Texas De Brazil is on my fat list too.

Pool in March? Nope! PBJ dislikes Vegas & TOTAN... erm WTF dude?

I want to rent those dune buggies too, found a machine gun rental place as well.....too bad that star trek place closed  :( I wasnt sure if I missed anything else like a must eat at place, must drink @ club & etc. I am looking forward to the local bar...The hotel I am staying @ has bathtub girls in their club so thats on the agenda.... youtube search on "tao bathtub girls" to see what I am talking about

When I was in Vegas a few years ago, I expected strip clubs and hookers galore on the strip. Not the case! The closest we came to hookers or strip clubs was the baseball card sized 'escort' services advertisments being handed out by the mexicans. Sure, you could go into several shops on the strip and buy a Hustler or Penthouse magazine, but no strip clubs or hookers.

Also, I did like the fact that you could walk the strip with an alcoholic beverage without getting an open container or public drunken disorderly ticket or fine. I investigated why and its because all the hotels and shops own the sidewalks in front of their businesses and they arnt considered 'public walkways' and the business association sees it as a good thing that people are able to consume adult beverages because of the 90% possibility that since your 'buzzed' or drunk you are going to spend money in their establishments.

The TV shows like CSI and the likes embelish Vegas a little. But I did learn that the Strip isnt in Vegas proper, but in Clark county and Clark county doesnt allow strip clubs.

One idea, rent a Ferrari, Lamborguini or Bentley for the day! When I was out there, a HUMMER (prior to mass production) was considered a high end luxury vehicle that was renting for $100.00 for a 12 hour period. Drive it out to Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon. You'd definately turn some heads and make the chicks take a second look!

Wow, it was drinks-o-plenty when i was there. Foster's was giving away their beer in front of Harrah's, all you had to do was pay the tax for it! I thinks it was like $.16 or something, but the attendants sure had a full tip jar! People were crawling the streets from the MGM all the way down to Circus Circus ut to about 2am.

If there is a big convention in town that takes up 3-4 hotels, then the strip will be full of people!

But that was my experience!

PBJ the flat surface observation is interesting, good work. On the other hand dude I want to know what you had for dinner this week so far that is superior to the Venetian or Bellagio buffet? http://www.flickr.com/photos/20624555@N00/2617371804/#sizes/l/

Fordman I saw this: http://www.dreamcarrentals.com/rates.php Pretty sweet but the F360 is $1,100 a day + $2.00 per mile after the first 100 miles.

Whoa!

Pretty sweet but the F360 is $1,100 a day + $2.00 per mile after the first 100 miles.

Just a tad bit steep with the price! I didnt bother checking the price while I was there but I saw plenty of Ferarri's up and down the strip!

Shoot, I dont think my whole trip to Vegas cost me more than $750.00 (hotel, round trip air fair, shuttle to and from airport and free tix to the buffets!)

Speaking of the buffets, I didnt really care for any of them. Sure they were big and open until 2:30am but the food was, so so! The food tasted like is was from an elementary cafeteria but you could drink as much beer of wine as you wanted! The usual price for the buffet was $24.99 for the food or $39.00 for the food and alcohol buffet. I was in town for a Union convention and the hotels gave us as many free food and drink buffet tickets as we could handle!  ;)

I lived in Vegas for several years, and I always advise those so inclined to see more of Vegas than the Strip.

There is Red Rock - Perfect for hiking or you can just drive through it.  It is quite stunning.

There are some great shopping in Henderson.

Please visit Lake Mead and check out how low the lake has gotten from all the water usage over the past decade.  With the lower levels comes the beautiful rock formations.  I hear the lake has only 4 years of water left.

Hoover Dam - nice views and tour.

The Strip is great and yes the PBHOF is perfect for a bash of Funhouse, but also check out the arcade at New York New York too.

I would advise to stay away from Downtown, as it is not the safest part, especially during this downturn.

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Holy thread resurrection!

So....did you go to the Pinball HoF?  I'm going to be in Vegas this weekend with a couple of guys (no wives!) for the SuperBowl.  I've never been to the PHoF and am wondering if its a 'must see' for a child of the 70s-80s ('72 Bday).  I was never a HUGE pin fan, but I do have some good memories of plugging quarters into several pins at a 7-11 while my brother hogged Zaxxon.

There will be plenty of time for strip clubs, gambling, boozing, etc, so this isn't an either/or situation, more of a "is it worth the trip" kinda thing.....

When I was in Vegas a few years ago, I expected strip clubs and hookers galore on the strip. Not the case! The closest we came to hookers or strip clubs was the baseball card sized 'escort' services advertisments being handed out by the mexicans.
I was in Vegas last October, stayed at Planet Hollywood. We drove the girlfriend's Mistu Lancer down from Canada for her 30th B-day, and spent a couple weeks going to Disneyland, Six Flags, Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood BLVD and Vegas. It was a good trip, but we were burnt out near the end.

Those mexicans with the stripper flyers were sooo funny! They put their heads down, and go *SNAP* *SNAP* with the cards on their hands, and then practically shove one in your face. The girlfriend and I went with her brother and his girlfriend. He made the mistake of jokingly taking one card, and BOOM, he had 3 other mexicans jamming more cards in his hands, and 2 other mexicans jammed cards into his pockets. Good thing we left our wallets in the hotel!

PHoF is obviously a given. It's not at all in the "Vegas" styling you'd expect... lol!
http://maps.google.ca/?ie=UTF8&ll=36.101059,-115.068891&spn=0.016089,0.026157&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=36.101051,-115.130601&panoid=oRmWBlUORsqyp7jAnamW6g&cbp=12,9.33,,0,18.44
Also, there's no sign on the building really, at least not any big signs...

The Miracle Mile mall at the bottom of Planet Hollywood was neat, but -nothing- special in there other than Earl of Sandwich (WAAAAYYYYY around the back of the mall, by the south side of the casino). If you've never eaten here, it's a MUST for drunk food to soak up some of the booze.
There's also a Fat Tuesday just outside the West entrance of the MMM casino, where you can get a pretty good price on the Yard Dogs. Basically a big plastic pipe, with a bulb on the end, full of slushy alcohol. A must have for Vegas! I went through 5 of the tall red ones on the left in a night. Spent about 45$ and was feeling pretty good the whole night. There's a bunch of different flavours, too.

It really does depend on what you're into, though. During the day we went to the aquariums at Mandalay Bay (you walk through glass tunnels in the tanks, and sharks swim all around you), the Coke Store, the M&M store, and just generally walked the strip a bit. Between the coke store and the M&M store (all in the same building) there's a "tickets for tonight" booth. If you stop in there, you can save a decent amount on meals and shows. On the basement floor between the COKE and M&M stores is an arcade. Don't expect it to be the world's best arcade ever, it's got a lot of VR style games. It's a fun way to kill the afternoon. Only 3 pins, I think south park, Viper, and one other one... Don't bother wasting your time "making money" (20$) watching the TV pilots etc. that people will be pimping. They usually suck.

The fountains at Bellagio are kind of cool, but a week before we went to Vegas, we were in Disneyland and saw their "World Of Color". Bellagio fountain are nice, but the world of color was ---smurfing--- amazing. If it's something you've never seen before, and you're near it at night and need to rest your legs, check it out. It gives you a reason to stand around a bit. It's not really a comparison to World of Color though...

We never got to the Lion cages in MGM, but I've heard they're neat to see. Also, if you want a cheaper supper, but still good food, eat at the Hard Rock. If you just want grab and go food, get Earl of Sandwich or Pizza at the NY NY.

One tip I will give you to really get the best impression of Vegas...

Show up at dusk, just as the sun is setting. Don't show up when the sun is up and the lights are off. Spend the first night exploring the strip, don't worry about getting too drunk, but get your bearings. Spend the next day leisurely going to daytime stuff like the Coke store, and maybe a few outlet malls. That second night will be the night to go nuts. Spend the second day sobering up by the pools. Don't waste the first day by the pools. The weather never changes, so you're not missing anything.

Also, if you get a chance check out Fremont Street. It's a bit off the strip, but from what I've heard it's a neat experience. If you have the cash, there are a couple of those car rental places along the strip, but to be honest, it's kind of over-rated, unless you plan on taking one out onto the high way. There's not really any place good to drive within the city so...

Yes, go to the PHOF

Just dont drink one of those tall yard glasses, everyone I saw drinking out of a 3 ft cup was a total d-bag (Dillon excluded of course ;D).

You have to eat @ Hash House a go go & get either the bacon injected waffles or fried chicken eggs Benedict

Thanks pinballwizard79 -

HHAGG is on my list of places to eat (it's at Imperial Palace, right?) - I've heard good/interesting things about it.  PHoF is on the 'day activity' list - not a certainty since the focus of this trip is twofold - the superbowl (sunday - duh!), drinking, and gambling.  Day trips are somewhat of a sidelight, but I've been meaning to check it out despite not being a huge pinhead.

I'm also thinking about doing the zipline at Fremont Street - might need a yard or two of some slushy beverage first though  ;D

And eat at the Bellagio buffet on saturday, the gourmet one, it is well worth it. Im going in July to the UFC Fan Expo and for my sisters birthday, I freakin cant wait.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

Yep - THIS weekend!  There's a pretty big football game going on this saturday too down in Dallas - I hear they might have it on TV a few places in vegas  ;)

Yeah - I heard about the UFC thing on saturday - should be a HUGE weekend with that and all the peeps in town for the big game.  My flight is in 26 hours!

Yeah, I'm totally stoked - another BYOAC'er will be there too and we're gonna tear up the town....if tearing up the town means drinking an obscene amount of beerz and having a totally kickass trip!
