Joystick question - Happ Supers
« on: October 21, 2009, 03:55:40 pm »
So I've been using Happ Supers in my mame cab since I built it over 2 years ago and am very happy with them.  I probably should have done more research prior to purchasing them and if I were to do it again I would probably go with the U 360s. But that's besides the point. I'm growing tired of the bat handles and would like to add some ball tops. My question is:

Is there any way to just buy a shaft and ball top that can easily slot into my happ super base or do I have to purchase a whole new assembly? My control panel is 1/2 " MDF and my cpo is glued directly to it. the joysticks aren't recessed at all and I like the height they're at now, I don't really want to have to route the underside to recess a new joystick assembly and I don't want to spend a ton of money if I don't have to.

So I'm looking for the easiest, cheapest solution to adding ball tops to my cab, any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hewskie

Cheapest?  Dremel the bat down to a ball.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

I've used the replacement handles from Tornado Terry. They are made from a material thats different than a wico, but it works.

I plan on building my own custom ball tops eventually. The plan is to get some round bar, lathe the slot for the e-clip and thread the other end to fit this top:

Custom made sticks using these would set the CP off nicely.

Originally, I saw some Versa-ball replacement shafts on GGG. But they have since been taken off the catalog... But, after looking things over, I can totally custom build some replacement sticks for sure. Plus, what is this hobby if someone isn't modding something to some extent, right?
