Installing WG9800 into Ultimate Arcade II cabinet
« on: October 07, 2009, 09:34:45 pm »
Does anybody know if this monitor should just be able to place right into this cabinet with the the mounts supplied?  I tried putting it in myself, and it seemed like it didn't line up properly.  I'm thinking that I have to put it in just right, or it's not going to fit, but I wanted to check with you guys before I spend an hour trying to get it to sit right.  Also, after my first attempt of mounting it, I took it out and figured let me plug it in first and make sure it works.  After doing that, I realized now it's charged, and I'm nervous about picking the monitor up again to mount it without getting electrocuted.  Stupid thing to go.  Do I have to go through the steps of discharging the monitor before picking it up again? Or is it safe for me to grab the frame, as long as I don't put my hands and arm inside and touch anything? Lastly, I have an ArcadeVGA card, but had problems installing it on my machine. It didn't like the driver and wouldn't boot up properly.  Before I play with that, is it absolutely necesary to use that card with this monitor?

I can't answer your UAII part of the question. However, with regards to the AVGA + WG9800, no you don't have to use that card with it.  One other option is to use Soft15khz with a card that supports the lower resolutions.  Unfortunately, this mostly means ATI cards (just like the AVGA).  You can use Nvidia cards but the newer ones aren't that successful with Soft15khz.

HOwever, I really don't think the issue with the card is a hardware one. I bet you have some legacy or older video card drivers on your computer that were interfering with a clean install of AVGA. I would recommend using one of numerous utilities to clean your computer of any and all video card drivers, then trying again.
