mess bios and files

Does mess require the bios files to match the release version of mess and do the rom/software files also change?

The bios files do occasionally change with new versions.  The software is not 'audited' in the same way that MAME roms are to my knowledge, so that shouldn't change.

Thanks man that clears up alot of questions... I have been trying to get mame multi jet to work and I think I have old bios files for mess.
