Scribblenauts for DS
« on: September 16, 2009, 11:58:31 am »
Anyone else having a blast with this game?  It is very clever and I have the most fun just messing around on the title screen getting things to interact.

Now that looks REALLY cool.  Reminds me of those old text adventure games where you typed things like 'turn key' or 'search body' to figure out the puzzles!

Been playing non stop for a few hours now and I can't get enough!  You can make almost anything.  For example, the first time it lets you make something I figured I would have to dig since the ground next to me looked "digable" so I entered "backhoe" and there it was.  Turned out that I didn't have to dig but it was cool none the less.

I've got to get back to Scribblenauts...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Hopefully this one will keep me busy until the new Mario & Luigi game has been... 'patched'.

I've just tried out that one. There is a patch and works with Acekard2.
I only played it for 1/2 hr or so, but works fine.

I did the 1st 11 levels on Sribblenauts last night. Pretty fun game. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the flower on top of the cliff...So I made a magic carpet.
I'l play again tonight when I get a chance.

Good one with the magic carpet.  I did it with a jetpack.  Another fun one is a pterodactyl.

I find myself solving all to many of the levels with the rope or something rope-like.  Like the level with the tornado...  I still have no idea how to beat that without tying a couple ropes to the star and letting the tornado twist it up and spit the star out the other side.  It almost feels like I'm cheating even though it's kinda impossible...

That stupid fish on level 11 kills me no matter what I do, and I always seem to fall off the magic carpet.

Seems like I can get the flower out of the water with a fishing pole and then kill the fish with a battery but the clunky controls always seem to get me or a flower killed.  Ah well, I'll try again.

Catch the fish on a fishing pole, then when you get it on land, shoot it with a gun. You can try a knife, but it got me a few times that way. The magic carpet took some practice, but I got up there.
I may have went "over par" but I didn't care, I got past the board.

I'm on the second world and I'm stuck on the "soccer board" (5th level or so) I just have no clue what to do. I'm sure it's simple, I just can vision it.

I just put a shark in the water to kill the fish  ;D

Also, wings are easily my most used item in the game.

Wow, this is game is the most fun I’ve had on my DS in a long time.  Unbelievable how many items they crammed in.

My five year old daughter loves it and it can actually be a pretty good game to help with spelling if I’m helping.  Classic moment – she was playing one of the beginning levels where you have to reunite a girl with her cat which is stuck on the roof of a house.  So what does she do?  She puts a dog on the roof to scare it down.  Interesting logic.  Didn’t quite work as well as she thought though – evidently, cats don’t always land on their feet.

I drop Torpedos or depth charges on the fish/crocodile.. agreed so many freakin items in that game... oh and "trap" (weapon) and mine (weapon) are the cheapest weapons!! you can just drop em on any enemie... and nothings like spawning an "RPG" to take out a bee

The patch does not work will all cards. I can confirm that it does on Acekard using AKAIO 1.4.1

I dropped a toaster in the water and electrocuted the fish.  I love that there are an infinite amount of ways to solve the levels.  I used a helicopter to get up there by the way...

The controls are definitely clunky but hopefully this is the first step in somehow categorizing everything for future games.  Imagine something like this in 10 years with voice recognition!

All I did was use a bungie cord and hook it to the goalie and then a large animal and drop food for that animal.  He will then pull the goalie away and you can shoot the ball in the goal.

I typed up the word   Lowrider  and it gave me a bouncing 64 Impala convertible to ride but I can't get it to hop. I guess it only comes with weak hydraulics.

The things you can type are incredible.  When giving the farmer animals, I was trying for something a bit different..  Unfortunateyl, the chimera I conjured up ate him...  Later, I flew a Roc up to a cliff..  Dropped an electric eel in with the fish to get rid of it..  Created a fire hydrant and used a wrench to open it up to quench the guy's thirst..  On the title screen, I created a dragon, who started attacking me..  So i created a knight, but the dragon killed him, but the knight dropped his sword.  So I picked it up and finished off the dragon..

Such a cool game to just play with..  Haven't had this much fun on the DS in quite a while.  I wish they'd bring this to something like the iPhone so it could be continuously updated...

It's amazing how everything interacts with everything else.  For example, I spawned a vampire who tried to kill me.  I solved this by giving myself some garlic and the vampire ran away. Don't ask how I came across this; but run this test:  Type: gamer.  Now type: virgin.  Notice anything?

The puzzles are downright goofy, but it IS fun to come up with a solution that you doubt the programmers intended.

Like the vending machine-handcuff solution that works on every level?

I agree with your score - it was really neat to tinker with but the controls are horrible.

Oh, I'm quite proud of how I solved that one...  I placed a couple additional icebergs in the open ocean between then put on a tuxedo and the penguin followed me.  It's things like that that get me over the sometimes annoying controls, and boy are they annoying sometimes.
