hi i have a street fighter alpha system, and when i went to turn it on i heard a loud sparking noise, so i took the back off and found that the coil is arcing on the mounting bracket and just sparking in general what can i do to fix this? i would rather get a whole new board then try to solder/unsolder the coil. i can post pics tonight if you guys need.

That is a flyback transformer. If it is arcing you should replace it. Doing so will require you to discharge your tube first though.

that will require unsoldering/soldering right? and does anyone kno what model this is??? i looked on http://www.jomac.net.au/mon.htm but didnt see it.

Yes it will require soldering. Look for some kind of identification as to what model etc the monitor is.

It's a Wells-Gardner k7000 series and it definitely has a bad flyback.

Ditto ..... Wells Gardner K7000
And that flyback looks like it's been wacked.
Along with the neckboard not completely seated.

Common monitor, parts readily available, easy to fix.

ok where would i get parts for this at? and how do i re-allign the neck board?

Make sure all the pins are lined up properly and gently push it back on.

thanks for the help guys, am i better off getting the flyback and cap kit while im am at it or are the caps harder to install, i have soldered before but only for car audio never on a board of any sort, how do you unsolder them? just heat the gun the put it on the bottom of the board till the solder turn to liquid?

radio shack has a relatively cheap desoldering iron that should do the job.

and caps are usually easier to remove than a flyback....

a solder nooB should always practice technique on a JUNK pcb before attempting the "real thing"

i still do this on occasion with newer surface mount devices. just can't afford to mess up a board there.

Bob does cross ship. And if you have a checking account that does online bill pay, you can use that to pay him. I do that every time I pay him.
