2005 Golden Tee Golf Playing Blind
« on: August 26, 2009, 09:09:15 am »
My Gt was playing blind, so I tried adjusting the flyback on the U-2000 and got an arch to the adjusting knob. Had previuos problems with the red bleeding onto the screen and fixed the with some soldering. Didn't want to mess with this monitor anymore.  So I went to the local arcade guy and he sold me a K-7000 to replace it with.

Now I can't get the pic to stabilize or center.

Power source on  the U-2000 had a ground with it.  The K-7000 had only two wires. I hooked up the two wire system and wired the ground to the chassis.

Tried all the adjustments I could, but nothing worked.

This game is played a lot at my house!  We miss it Greatly!

Any help would be appreceated....

My first question is is there an isolation transformer in there ?

The U-2000 does not require one, but the K-7000 does.

Aside from needing to check that, try adjusting the Horizontal Frequency pot. (50/60Hz pot)

That little thing is a tranformer?  I guess when I think of transformer, I'm thinking of a larger power source. I'm not at home right now to check it,but I think I saw something like that next to the Hz control. It too was adjuistable.  It had a cross slot on the top of it.
When I get home tonight I can take a pic of it and post it.

Thanks for the reply!

Oh I forgot to mention, the K-7000 came with all the original chassis and neckboard

No, no, no.... sorry for the confusion.
The little thing I pointed at in the pic is the adjustment pot I was referring to.

The isolation transformer IS a bigger transformer mounted in the cabinet somewhere that feeds the AC power to the monitor.

I'm not at home right now to check it,but I think I saw something like that next to the Hz control. It too was adjuistable.  It had a cross slot on the top of it.

Right...... that's the adjustment I was talking about trying to adjust.

Thanks Kevin,

There is no seperate power supply for the monitor.
It looks like the power is intergrated with other
components.
Any idea on what the specs are for the transomer I need to get?

   Thank for the Help

components.

Just depends on what those "other components" are.
It may actually already be isolated depending on the power supply design.

Any idea on what the specs are for the transformer I need to get?

It would just be a 1:1 isolation transformer. (120V AC)

You can check with a multimeter to see if your monitor is already isolated in the power supply with a continuity test.

Unplug the machine.
Check for continuity between the monitors two-wire AC connector and the two power cord prongs that plug into the wall.
There should be NO continuity between any combination of the power cord and the monitor connector.

Okay I checked it and the power wasn't isolated.
So I took apart an old CD player and tried the transformer from that.
I was getting 119v from that transformer.  Same thing.....

Is it possible I reversed polarity on the ac current?

I'll try reversing them.

The monitor was tested before I bought it and it worked fine.

Didn't work.
Is it possible the sync wire (white ) in the original harness (6th pin) is in the wrong position?
I was told on this board it should be at the end on the 10th pin for the k-7000?

I wouldn't expect any isolation transformer in a CD player to be near big enough to run a CRT monitor.  Get one intended for the job.  150VA or larger should be sufficient.  You can buy them locally at suppliers like Kirby Risk or Grainger or lots of "arcadey" places online sell ones specifically intended for the job.

Okay I think I have it.
Perfect picture now, except it
doesn't seem to take up the whole
screen area. I have it centered.

When I put the white wire from the 6 pin to the 10 that worked!

I will go buy the right isolation transformer tomorrow
and put it in.
Running it the original way now.

I mis-read your earlier post, thought you had already moved it from pin 6 to 10 otherwise I would have mentioned that.
But yeah..... the last pin is the Negative Horizontal Sync (Composite) , which is the common pinout for most games.

Glad you got it going.

Size-wise the image may just need some additional manual adjustments.
