Mamewah, Zinc & No Wrapper
« on: July 11, 2003, 07:12:55 am »
After messing about with Howards Wrappers I have given up  :'( and decided to get zinc working in mamewah useing my old method. I thought I would share this incase anyone else is haveing a prob getting it to work.
1) Make 26 files in your Zinc directory all with the extension *.nul e.g. 1.nul, 2.nul etc
2) Set Mamewah to use the zinc directory for its rompath and not the roms directory. Make sure you set the the file extension for roms as NUL.
3) when mamewah loads it will now use the number in place of the rom. Just as it likes. e.g. Zinc.exe 1  will load sfex for you.
4) Drawback mamewah will list numbers rather than game or rom names in its gamelist :(

SOLUTION!!!
Copy the text below and save it as a new file called Zinc.dat and point Mamewah to it. This will add the required info to make mamewah gamelist and change the numbers into the game names:

Minwah-

I've been seeing a lot a good info on getting console emus to work with Mamewah.  I'm not ready just yet to get Mamewah loaded and configured, but I was wondering if you were capturing this information and including in on your site.  Info like in this thread or like the NES and Gens custom builds info?

If at all possible that would be great, I try to save off as much as possible from these threads, but it would be nice to know that the info was all in one place.....

Just a suggestion!

Thanks!

OK, I got it working great with the numbers method, but I can't seem to get the DAT to take.

When I set mamewah to use just rom folder for list generation, I get the numbers and the games run fine.

When I set mamewah to use just dat file I get a list of 26 games with no names, just blank spaces.  Mamewah says there are 26 games, but there's no names, numbers, or anything in the list.  When I select one of the blank spaces it attempts to run zinc with no rom name.  I checked the debug and it shows running: "C:\zinc\zinc.exe " with nothing after it.

When I set mamewah to use rom folder vs. dat it says no games found.

I pasted the complete section listed and saved it as zinc.dat and pointed mamewah to it, but it doesn't seem to be working completely.  I think it's partially working, but it's reporting blank space to mamewah for the rom name instead of either the number or the name.

Any ideas??

I would honestly just use my wrapper for this.  Even minwah himself uses it for zinc as it's pre-configured for zinc.  Not sure how you could screw that up. ;)

I didnt like your wrappers! I could only get an old version of your wrapper to work with Zinc. I took pressing escape twice to close it and return to Mamewah. Even then 50% of the time mamewah would loose focus when your wrapper would close. I realise that you are very proud of your wrappers Howard. But personally I think it makes more sense to just launch the emulator directly than by launching an unstable utility first. ;) Later

I used this method for the most part. The difference being that I only created the dat file with the information that you supplied and I did not create the 26 separate .nul folders.  The interesting thing is that it works perfectly with mamewah this way.

doh! Of course it would work with just the DAT file. I didnt think about that :) I originally used this technique when I ran Zinc from Advance menu. Didnt really refine it I just wanted to get it back on my cab. Good job POPCORRIN! Its always good to see an idea taken to the next step ;)

i have the same predicament as Bill_S, but also another... when i attempt to run a game, it freezes on the loading screen. what executon settings do you use? also, does anyone's strider 2 (usa) run correctly? my jap version does, and i re-d/l the file, but to no avail.
