Help with Lucky 8 Lines monitor bezel
« on: June 25, 2009, 09:52:49 pm »
Hello everybody.

I have a marquee bezel off a lucky 8 lines cab.
The cab was pretty well shot so I dismantled all teh parts and plan to build a bartop type lucky 8 lines.
The original cab had a 19" (I think) monitor in it, but I plan to use a 15" LCD on the bartop.

The original monitor bezel was a piece of plexi with some artwork around the edge of the screen.

This original bezel is going to be way too big, I would like to "shrink" it down to fit my LCD.

Below is a picture of the bezel laying on the floor, with the lcd fitting inside the monitor window.

Anyone have any ideas how I can shrink this original artwork down to fit a new plexi, and to fit the LCD monitor viewable area?
Can a shop like kinkos do this for me?
Thanks..

No advice at all?
Maybe my description wasnt real clear.
I would like to scan the present bezel, then reprint it to a size that matches my 15" LCD.
I tried scanning it on my scanner, but I had to scan sections, then try and piece them back together on my PC, but that turned out pretty crappy.

Can someone make this for me? (I was hoping a shop make be able to scan and reproduce it the size I need.)

The only thing I can suggest is that simply shrinking a scan of the bezel would result in some pretty small fontage on the left, bottom and right.

I don't know the actual design of your new cab, but what about breaking the bezel up into it's constituents. If you divide the bezel into five parts, you can freely trim the excess red off the top to shrink the width and have a little play in the height with some adjustments to the yellow/blue/red area directly below. Shift the entire text area down onto the CP by breaking it apart ans shifting them around.

OR

Chop the top and convert it to a marquee, move the yellow/blue/red area to the top. A little fidling with the pieces should get you what you want.

If you've scanned the bezel, you should pack them up in a .zip and post it here. That way it would give something for people to work with or at least they can see what went wrong with the scan and offer up advice on how to do a better scan.

Thanks SavannahLion.

My scans looked real crappy, so I deleted them.
I will try to scan it again and post it.

Seems to me there could be 2 options for you. 1 have someone (a shop) scan that with a big scanner and reprint it.  The only issue with that might be that the scanner would focus on the plexi instead of the art on the far side.  Doing it in sections by yourself only really helps if you are recreating it in Illustrator.  Which leads to a second option, recreate it in Illustrator.
With the second option you would be guaranteed it would be a super clean print, but it would only be as good as the guy who traced it.  Also, the colours might be off a bit.

Do you think that a company such as mamemarquees or emdkay could do this for me if I mailed them my bezel?

Wouldn't hurt to ask.  Also, most printing houses have large scanners so check around town and say you have a 20' X 30' (or whatever size it is) piece of plexi with artwork on one side and you want to replicate it.  If they say "huh?"  Move on.

I say get a novus kit to polish up the plexi and build a black bezel in between the monitor and the plexi.

Oh crap I've never heard of a novus kit.  I have a scratch down the front of my plexi.  I'll have to try it.

Thanks Bass!, but I want this to be a bartop, and the marquee is pretty big, Im thinking it would be a very big bartop if I used it as it is.

I still have some of the novus stuff left over from my mountain jukebox clone I did last year, so that's a good idea.
