Arcade to vga converter question

hey guys

First time i make a post asking for help for quite a while


since 19'' monitors are getting rarer and rarer ,

since 19'' crt vga monitor are cheap & 10x more common
and costing 20$

I was wondering is it easy to mount it to a arcade monitor mount?
+ is it 100% perfect using a RGB TO VGA converter
or it has flaws???

because the adapter is maybe 40$ + 20$ the monitor
=60 $ for a replacement solution....

I have just played around with it, I havent had time to work on the project I bought it for, but the few times I tested it, it looked real good on a 17" flat screen PC monitor.

But I am not an expert in this field at all. But for the price of this card, one could be tempted to give it a try.

because , games with faulty 19'' monitor will give headaches to some ,

they cost alot
and mostly all have burn ins


ill give it a try (order the converter)

the only question that remains

can i mount the pc monitor on the original arcade monitor frame....
without discharging it?

I honestly dont know. I think I have seen threads on here where people have fabricated adapters to do this. Sorry I dont have any links. Search Project Announcements.

I would think you would want to discharge the monitor before doing a lot with it, is there a reason you wouldnt want to?

im a plain wuss when it comes to monitors i just don't want to touch them
but i guess if i don't poke around the hazardous area i should be fine...

ill wear gloves & step on journals while doing so.

I think the worst danger would be to get shocked and drop the monitor, or if you are not holding it, getting shocked and jerking back and hitting something else.
However, I have read where people have gotten burned by the shock.

Mounting the tube wouldn't be a problem IF it is exactly the same size.
Just because a PC monitor is noted as a 19" it may in fact have a 20-21" tube in it.
So you would need to note the numbers on the TUBE label and match those.
Otherwise you will have to do some fabrication to mount the ears of the tube.

PC monitors also generally have much more involved on their chassis.
They are usually mounted utilizing part of the plastic casig housing the monitor.
So if you decase a PC monitor.... definitely expect to do some fabrication for mounting everything. (pcb feet, etc)

Always in my experience PC monitor tubes are measured by the tube vs viewable area, so a 19" means it's veiwable area is less than that. To replace a 19" arcade monitor you need a 21" tube. However, it may be slightly smaller because it will very likely be a 5:4 aspect vs an arcade monitor's 4:3.

PC CRT monitors tend to be stated in tube size with viewable areas as a note below it.  They are always 4:3 (except for the very rare 16:10 ones).  LCDs are sometimes 5:4 (19" 1280x1024 commonly is as this gives square pixels), but CRTs are 4:3.  LCD PC monitors are generally stated in viewable size.

Still, best to compare tube numbers.  That'll tell you for sure.
