STL Dorks Unite!
« on: April 29, 2009, 10:50:01 am »
I know there a lot of people on these boards that are in the St Louis Metro. I wanted to start a thread for local news, ideas, items for sale, pleas for help, gatherings, etc.

You can post other crap here as well, I really don't care. Just don't get your feelings hurt if someone calls you a D-bag. :burgerking:

Got the green light from the wife to go to CP Pinball May 8. This will be my first trip there and I am pretty spanky.

Now I need to start softening her up so I can go see T4...kidless... wifeless...that way I don't have to answer 47 questions during the movie.

I think what he is trying to say is that the rest of the family will want to go see the movie too but he wants to go by himself so he doesnt get distracted by answering questions.  I dont think it was difficult to understand his point.

Belle-Vegas in the house!

Wow...perusing CL, Ebay, and Mr Pinball over the last week or so...pretty slim pickins. The market for SS pinball seems to be tightening up. Perhaps a result of the piss-poor effort Super Auctions put forward a few weeks ago. I love that at the beginning of the auction, the old guy was basically apologizing for their crappy selection and trying to whip up (mmmmmm, pistol whip) enthusiasm for "mega" auctions in Ohio and Tennessee.

PBW79, alpha-dog challenges will be settled on the battlefield of a White Castle eating contest.

One weekend, I decided I was going to "St. Louis It Up" and got a case of sliders and a case of light beer.  I ate 1.5 sliders and drank 2 beers and my stomach went insane.  I spent 3 hours of the toilet shitting my brains out and had to stay close to one at all times for a couple of days.  The only other time I got anywhere near as sick was when I ate some old goat curry out of a shack in the caribbean.  :/

Wow....thats pretty weak PBJ.  Your stomach cant handle 1.5 sliders coupled with 2 beers?  Are you a vegetarian or something?  Maybe you just needed to get over a "hump".

Try this...consume about 20 Bud Lights (or whatever other beer you prefer).......then inhale about 6 double sliders with cheese., couple orders or fries......followed by another 2-3 Bud Lights.

The whole idea of 20 Bud Lights supports Jim's point a lot more than yours, Flake.  You'd think a person would learn after the first 4-5 of them.

Gotta love toilet humor.

If you were drinking Natural Light, you had it coming. Only trailer folk who have conditioned their stomaches to that stuff should attempt it.

I got a hold of some bad sliders once. It was violent, but only lasted about 3 hours. It was enough to keep me away for about a year and a half.

My food poisonings:

1. 29th Street McDonalds, Midwest City, OK 1988
2. The crappateria at SWOSU, sophomore year 1992
3. White Castle, Collinsville, IL  2003

Honorable mention: My little boy got it last fall at the Highland IL China Buffet. Got him off to an early start! :burgerking:

Now, now dont go bashing AB......errr......Inbev products.  A quality beverage it is produced here locally (for me).  My point of drinking 20 beers was more to the point of just getting drunk enough to properly enjoy the sliders.  If you get bombed on 5 beers more power to you I suppose......

If you were to drink a real beer it wouldn't take 20 of them.  What's the point of 20 light beers?  Isn't that like eating 10 boxes of Snackwells?  What's the point of light anything if you're going to consume 5x the amount?

That's not even addressing how terrible Bud Light in particular is... we're talking 2 proof mop runoff.

Ok, here we go......so what is a "real" beer Mr. Mass.  Sam Adams?

I enjoy many "full" beers.....Guiness and Guiness based mixed beers (Black and Blue/Black and Tan), Blue Moon, Bass, Rolling Rock, Labatts Blue, Shlafly (local STL brew), and the list goes on and on.......But even still takes a good amount to do the job.

It would be a helluva lot cheaper if it only took 5. The problem with beer, is that it tastes so damn good.

You see son, woman is a lot like a beer. They taste good, they smell good, and you'd step over your own mother to get one. But one one woman isn't enough...

And yet you publicly put out that the way to do it is 20 Bud Lights.   ;D

Jim, if it were really 4-5%, he wouldn't be able to drink 20 of them.  Not unless he's doing it over a long period of time.  Or unless a slider is so terrible he has to be Dudley Moore drunk to choke it down.  There are a lot of beers that say they are 4-5% but pretty much everyone's anecdotal evidence says they can't possibly be.

Beer does taste good.......Aaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh...........

PBJ - you are mostly correct about %'s however, BL is I believe only 4.2%.  Most beers are around 5% give or take....unless you live in OK, where its all 3.2% I think.

There's a pretty simple rule of thumb when it comes to beer... with a couple of exceptions but it for the most part holds true...

...if you can get it in a can it is fast food beer.  That makes the primary difference among them the same as choosing Wendy's over McDonald's.  Sure, one may be better than the other, but in the grand scheme they both suck pretty bad and should have been avoided.

...and yes, I have done in my share of fast food and fast food beers in my day.  I'm just not standing around claiming any of it was any good.   ;D

OK look, without making me look like a raging alcoholic (and we already be past this point), BL is 4.2% and if you dont think someone can consume 20 beers in one night then, well, I dont know what to tell you other than to tell you would be mistaken.

And to defend White Castle's honor, they taste awesome sober too.  But like a great many other things they taste better drunk.

And one final point, because this is getting tiring......Guinness comes in a can, same as your fast food Bud Light beer.  I suppose thats one of your exceptions though.

OK, first of all, why would they lie about how much alcohol is in it? Secondly, it's not impossible...I put away 18 Miller Lites saturday...and each one was yummier than the last. Thirdly, I did not put them in a bucket and bong them all down in less than a minute, it was over 6 or 7 hours. They say the body filters out a beer an hour (probably based on a 130 lb guy...so I filter out 2 an hour).

It's not sprint, it's a marathon...and my other favorite...this ain't checkers, it's chess.

Actually, it's not, because Guinness in the can doesn't resemble Guinness from the tap all that much.  My wife's family are all straight Dubliners and when they tried it they were adamant about how bad it was... of course, they did still drink it.   :laugh2:

You know what happens if you go to a beer forum and ask about canned beer?  The scream at you to get that X Arcade off your cabinet.

I can't really call ChadTower a snob, because I am a snob vs Natty Light and Busch. Keep drinking that Guiness, I own stock in Diageo. It's not for me though. I like my pilsner and a few lagers. Euro beer tastes like it was brewed through a butt crack...and not a hot girls's butt crack, but a big, sweaty, hairy, Philly fan's butt crack.

Ahh, but this weekend I shall break out the Maker's Mark for the KY Derby....mmmmm bourbon, the darkest of the dark liquors.

Now that's nasty.

My point on the 20 beers wasn't that a person can't drink 20 beers in a day.  Of course they can.  But if it takes several hours to do it then you don't really need 20 to enjoy a slider, do you?  Do you really need 7 hour buzz to prepare you to eat that?  Could it possibly be THAT bad?

Ha!  I think its "brownest of the browns", not "darkest of the dark".  Sorry but I had to redeem myself for my earlier mishap.

Did they really just say KY Derby and then argue over brownest of the browns?

I do believe you may be correct. It's hard to keep the 10,000 or so Simpsons quotes stored in my brain straight.

Point taken about the sliders. I normally stay away from them in a sober state of mind. Now hung over, that's something different. Anything greasy helps a hangover and nothing is greasier than sliders.

Ahhh cornhole humor...that's the direction we're gonna take this, huh?

3.2 in OK is correct. When I go back there and go out drinking with friends, they tend to get all sloppy drunk and I just have to pee a lot. Don't forget the only beers the liquor stores carry are imports and malt liquor, and it is hot. Lots of goofy alcohol rules out there.

Why not?  I'm staring at a stormtrooper on the toilet.  It's not exactly inspiring maturity.   ;D

White castles are magic because they smell the EXACT same before & AFTER! But I still eat em, with cheese & horseraddish mustard all day hommie!

My fav beers: Blue Moon, Spaaten & Micheloeb light. If I drink redbull & vodka I wake up in strange places & suck at gameroom activities so beer is my preference now days.

But after 12 blue moons I am indeed a mess, I dont know if that makes me more or less of a man.

regardless I am still a bad MF'r  >:D

Ahh yes, red balls...cocaine in a can. I have had nothing but good experiences with that so far. Bizzaro world...it seems to make me better at video games (yes, vodka included).

In college, we used to roadtrip to Denton, TX to get real beer. F'ing Texas was dry all the way down I-35 until damn near Dallas.

They love their Shiner Bock down there.
