Youtube video of some of my Control Panel construction
« on: April 24, 2009, 02:20:56 pm »
Hello everyone, I've been a longtime lurker. Now it's time for me to give back a little. I built my first cabinet a few years ago based around the plans that Mike Trello put together on his excellent site http://arcadecab.com. I've been completely thrilled with the cabinet but since it was based around an original X-Arcade controller I've always wanted to go back and make a custom control panel for it. That day has come and I'm nearly finished with the CP. Here's a quick youtube video I made of some of the t-moulding and plexiglass work I did on it.

I've also posted some pictures of the CP build progression over here: http://picasaweb.google.com/dmel75/ControlPanelConstruction#

Thanks to everyone here and I welcome any comments on my methods of construction and or controller layout.

Derek

why did you cut more than just a 3" hole for the trackball itself or whatever size trackball your using?

I cut the opening for a standard betson-imperial trackball. I'll post some pics of it when it gets installed but basically I did that because I'm mounting the trackball with a trackball mounting plate. Would I rather have had it flush mounted into the CP? Sure, however, after seeing a number of control panels with the plate I thought it actually looked like a more durable solution, less wear on the CP top.
