Where the Wild Things Are - Trailer
« on: April 01, 2009, 05:04:35 pm »
I never read the book...but I have to see this for two reasons:

1) Arcade Fire music in the trailer!
2) Directed by Spike Jonze

Heh. Very cool.

I remember reading that book in third grade and my classroom did an entire classroom theme with trolls from that book. Neat stuff. I recently read that book to my daughter at the local Borders Books too.

I saw the trailer when it first hit. I hated it and have no interest in it.

I think I'll just stick to the book.

Never thought I'd say a movie looks like it needs more CGI, but those costumes look awful. Yo Gabba Gabba has better special effects.  :P

If I didn't already know it was entirely real, I would have thought that was an elaborate April Fools joke. That looks like complete and utter trash!

I think it looks fantastic.  One of my favorite books of all time.  If they were to make it so it looks like every other CGI HulkSpidermanFantasticFourWatchmenMonstersInc out there it wouldn't be worth making.  This movie has to stand out because of what the book represents.  Keep in mind they are making a full length movie out of a book with like 25 lines in it - there has to be a free reign of license here.

The one thing that I'm disappointed in is that Jim Henson couldn't be part of it.  This movie needs Jim Henson in a big way.

Funny, 'cuz I think CG is so overrated and overused. I was glad to see actual costumes. The faces on the monsters will be CGI, btw. And Jonze, the director, is working very closely with Maurice Sendak, the author of the original book, in order to bring them to life.

So, I'll wait to pass judgment. They don't show a lot of the vocal interaction with the monsters in the trailer.

Same here.  And if Sendak is actually involved with the visual representation I have faith... now if they can just make a Chicken Soup with Rice movie I'll be all set.   ;D

Yeah, great book, particularly the type of illustration, colors, etc. The costumes look okay, but all the 'human story' stuff I can quite pass on. But then, as mentioned, it wouldn't be 90 minutes.   ......

The monsters are dead on.  I don't know what y'all are complaining about.  And Spike Jonze.  This is going to be awesome.

Its not so much how they look, its how they look when they move. You can see a bit of it at about 1:21 in the trailer... Cheesy.
The way that costume is bouncing around, he probably accidentally dials 911 5 times a day.

I agree the costumes look just like the characters. Live action was the wrong medium for this book though.

I have never agreed more with ChadTower.

The book is awesome.  Loved it as a kid and was one of the first books I purchased for my children.  I usually don't buy movies but this will probably be the first Blu-Ray I buy.  That's not to say I won't rent it or see it in theaters first just to make sure it's not crap which I'm crossing my fingers that it's not.

Looks like Spike Jonze is also working on a movie version of Everyone Poops.

I actually like that book.  Probably still have it on a shelf somewhere in two languages.

LOL . . . I've never even heard of that book.  I had to check Amazon just to make sure it was real.  You should look at the editorial reviews they listed for the book.  Not favorable.   ;D
