Guitar Hero: Metallica
« on: March 30, 2009, 06:28:46 am »
(didn't find a threat when i searched, delete if i missed it)

Anyone else have GH: Metallica yet? I picked it up after work yesterday and am over halfway through it.  My initial reaction to this was "damn this is cool". after having slept on it I woke up today and played a couple more songs before work.  Damn this is a cool game.

The thing that really shocked me was that I was expecting to have to wade through a lot of filler songs before given any Metallica to play...not the case.  Before the first credits roll you have already played "For Whom the Bell Tolls".

If anyone has this and wants to jam on xbl, my gamer-tag is Nolemjo. Feel free to hit me up anytime.

I play on Expert and GH:Metallica is simply awesome.  I played about half the game the first night and then had to take a couple days off to let my hands quit cramping.  It is nice to see a music game with decent music on it for once.  Also nice to have a challenge again.

I'll definitely be picking up this one.

I never passed One or a couple of the DLC songs, so this should be a real challenge.

I'll have to wait for the PS2 version, but I've been looking forward to this ever since the first Guitar Hero came out.

I got the Metallica trackpak for Rockband1 and it ruined the game.
Your downloads are added to teh set lists you have to play.
I like listening to Metallica, but playing their songs is painful.

If RockBand: Beatles doesn't try and screw over PS3 users I'll get it, if they do then I'll wait for GH: Van Halen.

knave, they arent releasing a bundle for GH:Metallica but they will be releasing special guitar faceplate.  I prefer this over another guitar really...I have 6 or 7 plastic guitars and 1 more would just not sit right with my wife.

I have 2 xplorers, 3 les pauls, 1 strat, 1 of the gh:wt and one ps3 nyko guitar on the way (shouldve read the ebay listing better)

I've been waiting for this for a long time too, but just haven't made it to the store to pick it up.

I missed out on the 2nd pedal bundle that gamestop was supposedly offering (mostly because I didn't know it existed until after it was too late to pre-order).

I can't wait to shred!

Since I doubt there with be a Guitar Hero: Deicide or Guitar Hero: Cannibal Corpse,  I guess this will have to do.  At least there is a Slayer tune involved.

I knew about those. I hope they plan on a PS2 release of the Beatles one, because I REALLY want to play some Beatles.

Van Halen.....you know it won't just be Dave, so I'll only play part of it.

For Metallica, are you suppose to be a member of Metallica?

I'm hoping Van Halen would play as though you were in a Van Halen cover band that isn't locked into playing just Van Halen music and covers a variety of 80's hair band music.

Same thing with the Beatles, if there are a couple of Monkees songs in the game, I'd defiantly over look anti PS3 practices.

One thing i really like about GH:M is that all the songs are unlocked from the start in quick play.  You can go through career mode to build your own character but if you just want to jump in you can.

I think it's rather funny though that the deeper you get in career mode the earlier you go into the library.  Apparently they didn't go for an aerosmith style career mode because the earlier songs would have been far to hard for the early-game.

I am kind of on the fence about GH:VH.  If Sammy isn't in the game at all, I won't be buying.  The only way I will buy it day one is if his songs are not only in the game, but he's got a character model as well.  And while I'm at it, I really doubt I'll be buying the beatles rock band.  I liked the beatles, but not enough to warrant a full game's worth of songs...learned my lesson with aerosmith on that one.

Its a real fun game to play but I think its on the Easy Side.  Dont get me wrong Im no super player but I knocked out the drums in one sitting without failing a song on medium.  And went through on Hard with the Guitar.  But its a fun game.

If they were smart, they would stop featuring single bands and have more specific genres like GH:Metal or GH: Punk, etc.  A really good 80s version for today's consoles would be nice too.

So what is the real difference here anyway?  What's the difference between a Guitar Hero Metallica and a $25 download pack of their catalog?

So, really, not much then.  Certainly not an extra $25 worth of difference.

The same difference there is between two basketball games that have the same engine, but one of them bought the rights to use NBA teams.

I don't watch basketball , so I wouldn't pay $25 more for a game with the Chicago Bulls over a game with the Windy City Cows.

Only the same if you could download the Bulls to your generic game for a fraction of the price... except that they made a whole new release with the Bulls instead of offering you that.

Ok, let's say this game allows you to download the Bulls.

For a fraction of the price you get Generic Basketball Association(GBA) 2009 with the Chicago Bulls and the Windy City Cows.

Perhaps not, but if you're a GH fan, you already own the game.  It's unreasonable to buy it all over again for new content that doesn't include gameplay improvements.  That's what dl content is supposed to be all about.

It includes characters that are modeled after Metallica, and venues and set lists that are more Metallica-ish.  It also has songs that aren't downloads.

People aren't buying a GH game, they're buying a Metallica game.

the more I thought about it though, the more I know you're right.  I like(ed) Van Halen, but not enough to buy a game that's all Van Halen.  Even though the Beatles would be fun, I don't think I'll play it as much as I play GH:WT. There aren't any bands I'd feel compelled to buy.

I can understand Metallica, just because it’ll have a heavy and darker theme.  If I was into that kind of music I’d get it.

Maybe a GH/RB that featured a Country band, just because there are very few country downloads, and themes so it would feel like a different game.

GH:Metallica does have gameplay improvements over World Tour.  It adds double-bass support and new Expert+ difficulty for drums.  It also has a ton of songs from Metallica and other bands, 60+ i believe.

At the rate of 3 Songs for around $10, you are a saving a bunch of money if you planned on buying all those songs through the Xbox Live store.  Plus, not to mention, some people really like the addition of Full Length Music videos from live Metallica shows and the artwork thats included.

Since there is no guitar bundle,  :hissy:, I will probably pick it up on sale for around $40. If it has ~60 or so songs thats less than 70¢ a song. Not bad if you ask me. Plus since I really enjoy GH:WT and want more It's totally awesome to be able to satisfy that craving with a Metallica flavor.

GH Metallica is awesome.   i preordred at gamestop and got the free drum pedal, but it does not work with the rock band drums that i ahve, only the GH drums...so it does me no good...although i pretty much play the drums on medium anyway, so no big loss there.   I normally play the guitar on hard, and so far i am able to keep up with it...although i havent played any of this type of game in a while, so my hand cramps up pretty quick.  i bought GH world tour at circuit city when it was closing, mainly so i could get the new guitar..but i havent really played it at all yet....i still like rock band better, since it has so many more songs to choose from.

I played the demo today. The songs on it must be the easiest in the set list, because I could 5-star them with no problem.

I think I'll wait until the price drops, or gift season, or I have more disposible income.

Warning: might be a stupid question coming up, but I have never played any of the full-band games (RB or GH:WT) so I don't know how they work. Here's the question: Do you have to have GH:WT to play GH:M? I only have GH3 - just guitar, no other instruments.

I love Metallica and was planning to get this game.

And I disagree that "Metallica died with Cliff" - Justice for All and the Black Album are great - but the black album is the end of Metallica for me.

Eric.

It's a standalone game, GHWT is not required.

I looked at a compatibility chart and any guitar that can be used with GH3 can also be used with GH:M, regardless of platform.

And I disagree that "Metallica died with Cliff" - Justice for All and the Black Album are great - but the black album is the end of Metallica for me.

I'd actually forgotten how much I used to like Metallica until I picked this up.  Back in the day I was a huge Metallica fan (went five nights in a row when they came through Ontario on the Justice tour).  I far prefer their pre-Justice material, but hey... when they're on tour and that's the only chance you get to see them, you go...

And I'm with you erictrumpet... the black album was the end of the line for me.  I moved to Vancouver (where nobody toured at the time), lost touch with music for a few years while I was in college, and then wrote them off as a band after the whole Napster fiasco.  I picked up GH:M when I started to run out of songs on all of my other games (its a whole lot cheaper up here to buy the game and get ~40+ songs than it is to buy the songs by the handful), and playing these songs reminded me of years gone by.

Funniest part with GH:M was... in all the other GH/RB games I generally do great on the rhythm but cramp up on the solos.  With GH:M, was totally the opposite... I'm doing awesome on the solos but blowing it on the rhythm sections.  I guess all those years of playing air guitar as a teenager are finally paying off!
