Windows Process Tool
« on: March 08, 2009, 11:05:16 am »
A few years ago, there was a Systems Process Tool featured on Digg (probably more than once). Essentially all it was was a bit of software that pulled your current running process, then pulled information about the individual processes, and presented a list of your processes with a various bits of information such as known virus, known statuses, etc. etc.

I used to be pretty good at memorizing processes in my 98 days and knowing what should and shouldn't be there, but XP runs so many damn processes across so many different configurations that I can only remember about 1/3 of them.

Either that or I'm just getting to damn old. Can't tell you now many times I looked up TosBtHid before realizing, "Oh yeah, that's the Bluetooth."

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

edit: Oops, this should be in Software shouldn't? Oh well, move me then.

Can't say I've seen a tool that knows what all of the processes are... I usually just look them up with procexp and then Google the invididual process if I don't know what it is.  That pretty much always works.

Oops, sorry. I should be more clear about this aspect. IIRC, the tool tapped into an online database (Google itself? I don't recall) about individual running processes. The point of the tool was to save the hassle of individually Googling X number of processes.
