Aright...
So, I've one cab and lots of control panels under my belt. The machine is a very large Capcom Big Blue that originally had Captain Commando in it but was badly converted into Mortal Kombat. I got it for $60 and since I love Mortal Kombat I cleaned it up, designed and built a new control panel and artwork and installed a modded xbox with all the bells and whistles. An xbox gets you the most bang for your buck in emulation terms in my opinion. There is no $50 computer that can do all that an xbox can (ok, $100 computer, it does have a 250GB hard drive now). All the adapters from Ultimarc made it super easy. I never took pictures along the way cuz I was worried it wouldn't turn out well and I'd just be embarrassed if it never got finished. It did get finished and I love how it turned out.
So, no more embarrassment! My next project is a Mario Bros widebody that will have both a Wii and an Xbox with a switch to easily go between the two. Since the ipac uses PS/2 cables a vga-ps/2 A-B switch will be able to switch the video and controls both together. All I need to do is make vga connections from the ultimarc video adapters.
Why both consoles together, I hear you ask? Well, as good as the Wii is with homebrew so far it is still the early days of emulation, and theres no real mame emulator yet. Its going to be awesome having a Nintendo Cab with a Nintendo console in it, but the Xbox covers all the things that a Wii doesn't do well, like; mame, daphne, XBMC for mp3s and movies, xmugen and Super Mario War. In fact, I considered making it a dedicated Super Mario War cab with smw artwork, but I think a bigger four player cab will be better for that.
I'll be taking my own pics soon, but heres how i got it. Its the picture from the guys craigslisting.
