fun with ebay tool
« on: February 10, 2009, 01:26:55 am »
as in  :tool:

someone on the aussie arcade forum brought this to our attention:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230323398609

which states 'NO QUEENSLAND  BUYERS'!

well, there are quite a few of us on that forum living in QLD. so we've been having a bit of fun. pretty much every question is from members of said forum, including me  ;D

read posts from bottom up

we aim to make make him work hard for that 26 bux he might get for his 'gamcube'  :)

I would think he violated ebay rules and you could have had it yanked last minute. You can't restrict geographically in your own country.

Anyways, your comments were great Danny

Seemed like he played you guys a lot more than you played him.

yeah, in the end we didnt really work him at all, did we? the fact that he missed the point about him spelling 'gamecube' incorrectly really didn't matter.

Hey Danny, I'm selling something on Ebay US, I specified that I would not ship international.  Some bloke (lol) from Australia wants to know if I'll ship to him.

I've never done it before, is it a major pain in the ass to ship from the US to there?

tell him to go jump! hehe. if its not bulky and under 500 grammes (about a pound, youll need to check. USPS site should tell you) then its a piece of cake. as soon as it goes over that magic number though, it gets expensive. ive bought quite a few things from the US on ebay. pretty much all sent via USPS.  ive only had one thing go missing from the US. i think he never sent it. favourite for me is getting stuff from the UK though.often, it gets here about the same time as buying it from another state!

if you sell often on ebay, maybe experiment with something cheap that you wont be fussed too much if it all goes bad.  if its a region coded thing, make sure to make that clear in the auction. if you find that was a pain in the arse for you, stick to US only.

i think international restrictions are fair enough. was just really funny that the guy had one problem with a queenslander (which is an adjacent state to new south wales) and so wasnt going to sell there anymore. looking at his feedback, it wont be long before he has to exclude ALL states from his sales!

I wont buy of US sellers on ebay if I can help it, they seem disorganized when it comes to overseas shipping compared with the sellers in asia and australia.

And some will only use fedex or the other one thats really expensive internationally which makes it a stupid price all up, whereas hongkong and china ems is cheap as and really fast to NZ, and aussie post airmail is pretty good too.

I don't sell much on eBay, but I usually say no international shipping. I don't know if disorganized is the right term to use with US sellers; I think completely clueless is more appropriate. I have only had 5 or 6 dealings outside of the US - ever, and only 2 or 3 were sales. 1 or 2 to Canada, and one to Germany. Canada is easy, I don't think it is actually any different than sending something stateside. Germany wasn't bad, but there was definitely more involved. I accepted the bid on that one only with the understanding that he was responsible for all charges. It worked out well, but wouldn't have been worth the time for a $10 or $20 auction.

The only things I have ever had to buy from another country are modchips, an EMS Topgun, and a bunch of stuff from Ultimarc (which I could get from US resellers, but Andy ships ridiculously fast from England). Most items have already been imported here for our buying pleasure.

So I do not think we are being rude by not offering quality shipping overseas, we just don't know how to do it well.
