Problem with MAME and ATI x1650
« on: February 03, 2009, 09:00:40 am »
I,

This is my first post but I’ve been lurking on this forum for some times now and I’ve learn a lot from people here so I have to thank you all in the first place  ;D. I am currently working on my first MAME cab.

Ok now to my little problem. I recently bought an ATI x1650 pro AGP. I decided to go with ATI because of the component output (works great by the way). The problem is that I got a weird problem with MAME since I replace my old nVidia TI4200. The controls becomes unresponsive but the display seems to be ok (60/60 frames). All inputs seem to be executed on screen with a lag of about 1 second or more. Sometimes I start a game and everything is running fine then the controls get unresponsive and I have to restart. I didn’t have this problem with the old video card (I got several other problems with that card but that’s another story).

My setup:

Atlhon64 s939 3200+ VIA chipset
2 gig rams
250 gig 7200.10 Seagate
Diamond Viper x1650 pro 256 megs AGP
300 watts PSU
IPAC 2
MAME 0.128
Windows XP sp2

What I’ve tried:

- Re-install MAME and tried several setting (frame skip, resolution, etc.)
- Format the drive and re-installed Windows XP with the latest ATI catalyst driver (8.5)
- Disable the entire key lock feature in Windows.
- Check with a multimeter all the connections on the IPAC, everything is fine
- Test the controls on Notepad, no problem, no lag at all.
- I’ve used another 300 watts PSU that I had lying around to power only the cards since they recommend a 400 watts PSU but I got the exact same result so I don’t think it’s a power issue.

Hope someone have an idea! If not I am open to suggestion for a new AGP video card that supports component connection easily.

Thanks a lot,

Simon
