Mr. Do: This game worked for quite some time and it was one of my favorites. Its basically Dig Dug and I guess that's why I liked it so much because after windows 98, this game wasn't on my computer anymore. I'm guessing a memory chip or something went on this one day because I turned it on and it make a terrible high pitched shrieking noise and then scrambled enemies show up and that was that.

DK: Definitely cap job. The foldover is a classic symptom on a Sanyo EZ.

Frogger: the monitor appears to be working, but there may be board issues of some kind. Start checking voltages, fuses, connections and the like.

Mr. Do: definitely a board problem. Start by double checking connections, verifying voltages, reseat socketed chips.

T&F: Rebuild the trackballs.

By rebuild do you mean new rollers and bearings? I'm waiting to buy anything for that until I get my tax refund :-P All that money is going towards these machines. I think I'm going to restore Track and Field Completely, I just have to make a couple decisions about the paint and side are and such.

I vaguely remember hearing there was a track ball version. Kinda rare isn't it?

T&F trackball version is semi-rare as it's not highly desirable. The TB made the game VERY easy compared to the button version.

The trackball version wasn't even from the factory. It was just a conversion kit that arcades had the option of putting on. I have the conversion manual somewhere around the basement. I'd love to get a hold of a standard control panel and make it so I could switch them whenever I wanted to. But I've been looking and haven't had any luck.

I took a look at Mr. Do! today and I made a really really stupid mistake and I think I might have ruined a chip. I stuck an IC in backwards and played it for a while because I actually had picture. Everything is fine now except my character and the enemies all show up as blue blocks. I'm not really sure if this was all me though, because with the IC flipped even the apples were blocks. But now only the enemies and I are.

Just did a self test (really nice feature of this cabinet) and the RAM and the ROM are OK. Not quite sure what else could be causing these colored blocks. Voltages are pretty much dead on. 5.06 volts right out of the PSU (after a little adjustment). Anywhere else I could check voltage?

So I think I may have fried the D5 or D6 memory chip. The manual says they are 2732 32k eprom chips. I looked online and was able to find a place I can order them and have them programed as well so I think I'm in the clear, I just wanted to double check and see if this is plausible and if anyone has used this site before.

They don't look exactly like the ones in that picture but I'm sure that's just because they are updated versions on the chip. Hopefully this will rectify the problem.

Edit: I just realized I need a minimum order of $15 to check out at that site. They have nothing else I really need there. Does anyone know of another site that has this same kind of service?

A good suggestion too. I just didn't want to flood the board with a bunch of topics at once. And since I'm not working on a complete restoration yet, I'd be posting in each thread every day for the most part. I'll look into breaking it up.

ArcadeChips has had problems in the past and dropped off the face of the earth for a while leaving people without refunds or orders. He resurfaced recently and I understand has been putting things right.

I use HobbyRoms -- Steph is a great guy and I've never heard of anybody having a problem.

I believe that ArcadeComponents stocks those EPROMS, but I've never actually asked Raymond if he supplies programming (although his site says he will also do custom programming, so I guess so). He is a member here (channelmaniac) and a really good guy (his technical logs have been rather helpful to me).

I think I'm gonna go with Hobby Roms on this one if I can figure out exactly what I need. What I have are Toshiba TMM2732D chips.

I wasn't able to find them on the site though. I hate to make it seem like I want someone else to do this for me but I've really got no idea if that D on the end of the chip and same with the 3AA0. That and the website doesn't list a 2732 by Toshiba just a bunch of other brands.

Also, do I have to send him the chips or does he have all of these in stock?

Steph at Hobbyroms can hook you up.

I can also. It's pretty simple to program an EPROM.

The files you need to use are in MAME dumps. It's nice to be able to use those files to restore old games.

I'm in communication with Steph right now and hopefully I'll have the chip by the end of the week. Noticed another small problem today as well. The screen's color seems to be a bit off in the bottom right corner. Not quite sure what is causing it because there is nothing magnetic around it or anything that would interfere with the signal.

If you move the cab, you can end up with some discolouration. If the degaussing coil is working on the monitor, it should go away the next time it is powered on from cold.

The picture doesn't really show it well. Its not drastic, but in the lower right corner the cherries are purple instead of red. Just me being anal about things.

that will go away after a while. Try orienting the entire cab a different direction or location.

ITS WORKING!

Got the chip in the mail today from HobbyRoms.com. Service was excellent and Steph was really helpful. Definitely recommend them for ROM work. He's a updated picture of the display. Still a little discoloration but I can deal with that now that there aren't blue blocks running around my screen anymore.

Also, I've looked around but hadn't found anything on my own. Does anyone out there know if there is a high score save chip out there for this machine? Also, I believe what I have is a generic cabinet by Universal for plug and play depending on which game you want. Anyone have suggestions on places to order new brick artwork for the screen and CP?

That discoloration is definitely a gaussing issue. You said you already tried degaussing coil?

Try Matt Osborne, he might do a HS kit for Mr Do.

Now I really want an EPROM programmer but I know I'll use it maybe twice or thrice and then never touch it again. I just hate waiting for things in the mail. But not $150 worth.

I saw a couple cheap ones on eBay for $15-20. They use serial ports and printer ports though, so I don't know how I'd use them. I'll have to dust off some of the old hardware downstairs and see if I can even have a system to use it on. If I do I think I'll give it a go. Why not for $20 right?
