My latest 360 Joystick - SSFII Turbo
« on: January 04, 2009, 09:12:28 pm »
Whipped this together while on vacation:

Big thanks to Haruman for hacking my 360 controller.  I decided to put plexi over the artwork this time (I didn't do this on my last one) and I'm really happy with the way it turned out.  Speaking of which, the artwork is based on the Japanese SSFIIT 3DO artwork.  Always loved it.   It will probably end up on ebay as I have plans to make a 360/PS3 dual purpose stick.

Sweet!  Always cool to see my hacks in use.   ;D

Where did you get that USB passthrough?

For the US have a look [here] and [here] for the UK.

(I found the US link in another thread but I can't check it as I can't enable cookies here at work and  Markertek requires them.)

Hey you and I have the same idea on making a 360/PS3 stick. I have everything I need including 2 hacks done by my man Haruman on a sixaxis and a 360 controller. Im trying to input both PCB's into one stick. Ive wired them in 2 different ways so far and both have the same result except one wouldnt let me turn on the 360 controller at all. Otherwise the 360 will not work and the sixaxis makes continues to move the menu down endlessly and no buttons work. I know its a wiring issue and how the two controllers recieve their voltage. However I spoke to Haruman about this earlier today and he suggested using a switch to designate when to use the sixaxis functions and when to use the 360 controller. As soon as I can figure out how to add pictures to my posts Ill show you what I got so far.... But your stick is FABOLOUS well done. I especially like the artwork. Where do you get the plexiglass cut to your specifications and the usb passthrough you have used, is it a mini usb connection like a sixaxis has or is it a standard usb.

I'm going to use two USB pass through and plug the USB cables from each controller onto a separate pass through.  Then I'll switch the USB cable on the outside of the unit depending on the system I want to play.  That's the idea, at least.

As for the plexi, I used the top deck as a template and routed the plexi out.

IMO, the inconvenience of having to open the thing up to change the battery outweighs the conveneince of the wireless-ness.  The PS3 is a different story as it charges via usb so no batteries to change and no proprietary connections to worry about.  usb cables are so cheap, anyway.  I think I paid a couple of bucks for the 12 footer I have for this controller.

I have another cpo (same size) that I had printed at the same time as the SSFII: Turbo artwork.  I don't want it (and the money I spent on it) to go to waste so I think I'm going to make another one of these.  Same dimensions, for the 360.

Gatsu, my hat is off to you and I appreciate the comments.  Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

How does that differ from the 360?

It recharges through USB as well.

Hmmm...  I suppose I could just use the play and charge cable and plug it into the inboard side of the usb pass through.  Didn't really consider that.  I have several hacked wired controllers left for projects.  Maybe when I've used those up I'll build a wireless one.

Forgot to actually mention...

Gorgeous stick, wireless or not.  :applaud:

If you have a surplus of already hacked wired controllers, then yeah by all means make use of em. :)

Thanks, versa!

I'll definitely use all the controllers.  I think I enjoy making these more than using them.  :)

Yeah the 360 stick kaytrim built for me using a play and charge kit and that same usb passthrough you have on yours. It works great and I've never had to open the case.

Just put the battery pack on the outside of the case like I did........easy access....also put a plug in line with battery and board so I can service board if I have too.  Heres a pic...

Still have to clean up the edges but will do that after I wire up player 2

Hey, somunny. I really love that stick design. I'm just about to dive into making my first custom stick, and I had this idea in my head of what I wanted. It seems like you captured exactly that with this design!

I appreciate all the photos and such. That's going to help me out a lot.

It'll be a really smooth build for you too.

I built my personal stick using his specs and it came out beautiful. I just love the simplicity of it.

After building few other types of sticks...that style is probably my favorite.
